JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Specialist Engineer to focus on the digitization of our flexible pipeline manufacturing operations. The Specialist Engineer plays a key role in the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes across global production sites. The role combines technical leadership, hands-on process support, and strategic development to ensure production technologies remain robust, cost-effective, and scalable. This position is instrumental in driving best-in-class process standards and supporting knowledge transfer across departments. The ideal candidate will work with cross-functional teams of engineers and technicians to ensuring the review and execution of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) implement Industry 4.0 solutions, such as IoT-enabled equipment, data, analytics, and automation, that enhance production efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Digitization Roadmap: Work in a clear digital transformation strategy for the flexible pipeline production facility, aligning digital initiatives with business goals and manufacturing needs.

Leverage Past Insights: Assess current processes and review lessons learned from previous systems or digital initiatives to identify improvement opportunities and avoid past pitfalls in new implementations.

Cross-Functional collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and IT specialists in deploying new digital tools and processes on the factory floor.

Innovation & Culture Champion: Foster an innovative culture by encouraging experimentation with emerging technologies and promoting continuous learning. Champion Industry 4.0 best practices and a data-driven mindset across the organization.

Process Optimization: Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to integrate digital solutions that streamline workflows, reduce downtime, and enhance real-time decision-making in manufacturing operations.

Change Management: Act as a change agent for digital transformation, communicating the vision and value of new systems to all stakeholders. Provide training and support to staff to ensure successful adoption of new technologies and processes.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and department heads to ensure digital strategies align with overall business objectives. Report on transformation milestones, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine the digital roadmap.

Governance & Compliance: Ensure all implemented digital systems and processes comply with industry standards for safety, quality control, and cybersecurity. Establish governance for data management and maintain documentation of digital architectures and workflows.

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering (Electrical, Automation, Industrial) or Computer Science. This foundation ensures technical credibility and understanding of industrial processes. A strong engineering background is particularly valuable given the role's focus on manufacturing and technology integration in oil and gas operations.
  • Preferred Education: Advanced degrees are advantageous. A Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or a Master's in Engineering/Technology Management can be beneficial in providing strategic business insight on top of technical know-how. Similarly, a Master's in Data Science or Industrial Engineering could be a plus, reflecting deeper expertise in analytics or manufacturing systems.
  • Digital Transformation Projects: A proven track record of leading digital initiatives in an industrial setting is required. This includes experience defining digital roadmaps and implementing technologies such as automation systems, IoT sensor deployments, data analytics platforms, or Manufacturing Execution Systems on the shop floor. Successful candidates can point to projects where they improved operational efficiency or decision-making through digital tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES integration, manufacturing data platforms, and industrial cybersecurity standards.
  • Competence in data-driven decision-making, using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Soft Skills

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align digital initiatives with business objectives. The manager should connect technology investments to tangible business value (efficiency, cost savings, safety improvements, etc.) and prioritize projects accordingly. A strategic mindset is needed to roadmap the transformation journey over the short and long term.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. This role interfaces with many departments - engineering, operations, IT, HSE, finance, and possibly external partners. An effective Digital Transformation Manager can bridge the gap between business and IT groups, ensuring technical solutions meet operational needs. They should foster teamwork and open communication across disciplines.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts in business-friendly terms is vital, whether it's presenting a digital strategy to senior executives or conducting training sessions for shop-floor staff. Clear communication ensures company-wide understanding and buy-in for new digital initiatives.
  • Change Management: Demonstrated expertise in change management and driving cultural change. Transforming a traditional manufacturing environment to embrace digital tools requires overcoming resistance and managing the human side of change.

In summary, the ideal Specialist Engineer for flexible pipes manufacturing in oil & gas is an experienced industry professional who couples strong technical knowledge (IoT, automation, data systems) with change Management. He should have a robust engineering/manufacturing background, demonstrated success in driving digital projects, and the soft skills to lead people through significant change. In a sector where digital technologies like cloud, IoT, analytics, and AI are increasingly integrated across operations, this role serves as the catalyst to harness those tools for improved efficiency, safety, and business value in the flexible manufacturing process.
