GovFirst is seeking to hire Marine Chief Engineers to operate and monitor ferry vessel machinery across Virginia in locations including Jamestown-Scotland Ferry routes and other ferry operations within the Transportation Operations Division. These engineers will ensure the safe and efficient operation of main engines, auxiliary machinery, and related vessel systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor main engines and auxiliary machinery on ferry vessels to ensure passenger, crew, and property safety.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on all vessel systems; keep the Captain informed of any deficiencies.
- Maintain vessel readiness for USCG inspections and ensure compliance with all United States Coast Guard and VDOT regulations.
- Complete and maintain accurate fuel readings, engineering logs, machinery usage records, and other required reports.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and enforce engine room and non-passenger access security protocols.
- Train and mentor other crew members on machinery operation, safety procedures, and emergency response.
- Provide information and assistance to passengers and resolve issues professionally.
Requirements
- Must hold a valid USCG-issued Chief Engineer credential, 3,000 HP minimum, and a valid USCG Medical Card.
- MMC endorsed as Chief Engineer of motor vessels of at least 3,000 HP.
- Knowledge of vessel machinery operations, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard regulations governing ferry operations.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, schematics, and manuals.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Valid driver's license.
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) and ability to obtain/maintain 1st Aid and CPR certifications.
