Lead Subsea Engineer

The Global Projects Centre (GPC) is Subsea 7's centre of excellence for the execution of its largest projects worldwide

Working within the Systems Engineering function, the Lead Subsea Engineer will be responsible for ensuring delivery of a technically robust and optimized system solution for major SURF FEED and Execute projects delivered by the GPC organisation. This shall include definition of system functional requirements, resolution of key design decisions, identification and management of technical interfaces, mitigation of risks and design uncertainties, and implementation of design validation processes to ensure delivery of fit-for-purpose and effective design solutions.

The Lead Subsea Engineer will coordinate the overall system design solution in large, multi-location technical teams, representing Subsea 7 and Subsea Integration Alliance (SIA) where applicable. This shall include interactions with our clients to promote our capabilities and differentiators, and to demonstrate our ability to tackle complex, challenging and diverse project scopes.

The role shall include direct collaboration with Subsea7 Field Development Group (FDG) to align business drivers (internal and client), ensure effective communication between early engineering and execution teams and to manage the hand-over of projects during engineering transition phases and tendering processes.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:
  • Understanding and communication of system design and functional requirements
  • Understanding and communication of design drivers and decision-making criteria
  • Responsibility for the technical coordination of discipline work-scopes that cover the function and design of all parts of the system.
  • Responsibility to ensure mechanical and functional compatibility and consistency across the system.
  • Responsible for management of "design trades" to optimize the performance of the system in relation to the identified drivers and decision-making criteria across functions.
  • Understand client drivers and implement in design/equipment selection (e.g. operability, availability, integration with subsurface etc).
  • Apply a system level view and decision making to the following typical activities:
    • PFDs, schematics, block diagrams, field layout
    • Production assurance/flow assurance
    • Reliability/availability modelling
    • Testing and commissioning philosophies
    • Material selection, coatings and CP
    • Process safety, protection and risk management
  • Where applicable, support the Tender team to interpret the client requirements, identify their drivers and develop a tender execution strategy
  • Identify, evaluate and manage the key system technical risks, seeking mitigations where possible and populating the risk registers ensuring critical, high consequence risk items are escalated.
  • Acts as an ambassador for Subsea 7 (and SIA) promoting our technical solution and differentiators

Profile Qualifications

Lead Subsea Engineers shall be degree educated (engineering degree or similar), and have a Subsea Engineering, Systems Engineering or Engineering Management background, including detailed knowledge of subsea systems and a minimum of 10yrs experience of working in subsea projects.

Lead Subsea Engineers shall have demonstrable technical background combined with good commercial insight.

Key personal skills and experience shall include the following:
  • Systems Engineering background
  • Ability to lead subsea project multi-discipline technical teams.
  • Experience of identifying and managing interfaces within the engineering team, including technical disciplines, project management, client, suppliers and key stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills - oral, written and electronic.
  • Can demonstrate experience and familiarity with collaborative working practices
  • Prior experience in Design Leadership / Project Management
  • 10+ years' experience in one or more of the following packages:
    • Subsea Engineering
    • Flow Assurance
    • Production Operations
    • Project Engineering
    • Hardware package delivery (Systems, Tree's, Controls, Pipelines, Manifolds etc.)
    • Installation
