Subsea Controls Technician II
Reports To:
Controls Aftermarket Manager
Summary:
Trendsetter Engineering designs, builds, maintains and operates Multiplexed Electro-Hydraulic (MUX) Controls Systems for use on a variety of Trendsetter equipment, including intervention systems. Under minimal supervision, the individual would assist in the installation and testing of controls systems for subsea equipment in compliance with design and operating procedures and customer requirements. Working from written and verbal instructions, this individual performs mechanical, hydraulic and electrical assembly operations. These tasks require the use of electrical tools, mechanical hand tools, power tools and measuring devices along with review and adherence to Trendsetter job requirements and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Installation and testing of subsea controls and equipment per specified procedures and quality requirements.
• Conduct software and firmware installations, configuration of software for deployment or specific project applications.
• Perform mobilization and de-mobilization process for the Sentinel Control Systems.
• Operation of an overhead crane and a forklift properly and safely.
• Assist in the operation of TEI or customer equipment as required.
• Perform testing and troubleshooting of Subsea Communication Modules, Subsea Power and Communication Units, Electrical Power Units, Master Control Stations, Subsea Electronics Modules and Hydraulic Valve Packs.
• Perform FAT's (Factory Acceptance Tests), EFAT's (Extended Factory Acceptance Tests), and SIT's (System Integration Tests) as required.
• Perform diagnostic troubleshooting on failed electronics equipment of minor to moderate difficulty with multimeters, meggers, loop calibrators, etc.
• Exhibit critical thinking skills in troubleshooting / diagnosing problems found with testing and controls equipment.
• All other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Periodic offshore deployment is required to global destinations totaling up to 180 days per year.
• 3-5 years' experience as a residential/commercial electrician or an electronics technician.
• Must be a self-starter and able to work on tasks with minimal supervision.
• Must possess a moderately advanced knowledge and application of hand tools.
• Must be moderately advanced in the application of AC and DC electrical circuits and electrical theory.
• Have a moderately advanced understanding of electrical risks and ESD awareness.
• Must possess a moderately advanced understanding of wiring standards.
• Must be able to solder with minimal supervision to IPC class 3.
• Must possess a moderately advanced knowledge of communication protocols (RS232, RS485, MODBUS, TCP/IP, CANbus) and 4-20mA devices and digital transducers.
• Must possess a moderately advanced knowledge of EFLs and subsea wet mate/dry mate connectors.
• Must be moderately advanced in operating hydraulic assemblies, HPUs, pressure testing and knowledge of fittings and controls fluid cleanliness.
• Must possess a moderately advanced level of computer literacy.
• Proficient in reading and understanding one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic schematics and piping / instrumentation diagrams.
• Possess or obtain a valid US passport is required.
• The ability to obtain travel visas to global destinations is required.
• Must be able to pass an OGUK physical (or equivalent) as required.
• Possess or obtain an International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card) with vaccinations compliant with travel to designated global destinations as required.
• Possess or obtain IADC certification (Well Control, Subsea Completions, Intervention).
Work Environment:
• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, listen and speak.
• Frequent need for manual dexterity - using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pulls, reach, grab, hold, and lift.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Regularly required to sit & stand for long periods of time.
• Wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed in safety zone areas.
