About the role

We are recruiting for a range of Power Systems Engineers across the country, working in our North, Central and South regions.

As a Power Systems Engineer you will design connections for our customers (generation - including Nuclear Power Stations, Off- and Onshore Wind, Solar; and demand - including DNOs, Data Centres, Gigafactories, HS2) onto the Electricity Transmission System, ensuring compliance with our licensed and engineering obligations whilst seeking to maximise design to deliver National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and consumer value.

The vacancies are for PSE across different skill levels and cover our South (London & SE, M4 corridor - Bristol to Reading, South Coast, South West & Wales), Central (M1 corridor - Northampton to Luton, East Anglia, Norwich, Cambridge & Chelmsford) and North (North Wales, North West, North East, South Yorkshire and Humber) regions.

We have multiple opportunities within our Customer Connections teams for Power Systems Engineers (PSE) who will play a vital role in shaping our future decarbonized transmission network.

Level 6 - Associate Power System Engineer (Salary range: £45k - £52k depending on experience)

  • Degree level (or equivalent) in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering but other numeric or science-based degrees are also welcome
  • Working towards a membership of a relevant professional body e.g., IET
  • Understanding of power systems
  • Appreciation of power system analysis and modelling
  • Appreciation of scheme development and design approach
  • Appreciation of study analysis in Power Factory/ OLTA to identify network compliance issues
  • Appreciation of the relevant parts of industry and industry codes and standards including NETSSQS, CUSC, Grid Code, System Operator Transmission Owner Code (STC)
  • Networking skills with external and internal customers and stakeholders
  • Critical thinker and problem solver in power system analysis and design
  • Full UK driving license as site visits are likely.

Level 7 - Power System Engineer (Salary range: £52k - £58k depending on experience)

  • Degree level (or equivalent) in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering but other numeric or science-based degrees are also welcome
  • Membership (or working toward a membership) of a relevant professional body e.g., IET, IMechE
  • Understanding of power systems, power system analysis and modelling.
  • Understanding of scheme development and design issues
  • Knowledge of the relevant parts of industry codes and standards including SQSS, CUSC, Grid Code, STC and Charging Methodology in the context of design requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of NETSSQS and its application in line with relevant procedures,
  • Knowledge of the relevant parts of industry codes and standards including SQSS, CUSC, Grid Code, STC and Charging Methodology in the context of design requirements.
  • Experience in Power Factor/ OLTA study analysis to identify network compliance issues including local issues with potential commercial impact
  • Strong customer relationship and networking skills with external and internal customers and stakeholders
  • Critical thinker and problem solver in power system analysis and design including innovative network solutions.
  • Experienced in working with external regulatory bodies, relevant industry technical groups and customers.
  • Full UK driving license as site visits are likely

Level 8 - Lead Power System Engineer (Salary £58k - £65k depending on experience)

  • Degree level (or equivalent) in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering but other numeric or science-based degrees are also welcome
  • Membership (or working toward a membership) of a relevant professional body e.g., IET, IMechE
  • Understanding of power systems, power system analysis and modelling.
  • Understanding of scheme development and design issues
  • Good working knowledge of NETSSQS and its application in line with relevant procedures
  • Good working knowledge and application of the relevant parts of industry codes and standards including Grid Code, STC and Charging Methodology in the context of design requirements.
  • Leading activities of sub-regional PSEs to ensure the design is compliant across the system
  • Experience in Power Factor/ OLTA study analysis to identify network compliance issues including local issues with potential commercial impact
  • Strong customer relationship and networking skills with external and internal customers and stakeholders
  • Awareness of the LOTI and the Development Consent Order processes as they apply to major transmission system reinforcements
  • Critical thinker and complex problem solver in power system analysis and design including innovative network solutions.
  • Experienced in working with external regulatory bodies, relevant industry technical groups and customers.
  • Full UK driving license as site visits are likely
