About the job:
Kent's Houston office is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with rotating background, to support local/regional projects with demonstrated engineering experience. The individual shall specify, research, engineer, analyze, evaluate, and document mechanical equipment to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles. The candidate must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

Your responsibilities:
  • Work on small to medium size engineering projects with minimum supervision.
  • Execute projects as a working lead without direct supervision.
  • Able to lead a small team as a lead engineer and/or engineer of record.
  • Define Mechanical work scope, prepare engineering work hour estimates, and provide scheduling input.
  • Prepare and review mechanical equipment engineering specifications.
  • Prepare and/or review datasheets for mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare material requisitions for quote (MRQ), technical bid evaluations (TBE), material requisitions for purchase (MRP) and review vendor's documentation for mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare calculations for mechanical equipment and stress using computer software and/or by hand as required.
  • Support process engineers with the selection of materials of construction for equipment and piping.
  • Provide technical guidance to co-workers and resolve project issues and problems.
  • Review piping specifications.
  • Provide mechanical input to line list, specialty items list and equipment list.
  • Provide assistance for the resolution of engineering and design problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Qualification/ Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering plus 7+ years of experience.
  • P.E. licensed desired but not mandatory.
  • Able to organize, plan and prioritize work.
  • Experience developing a logical sequence of work.
  • Background with a variety of rotating equipment required such as pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement, metering, and multi-stage), reciprocating compressors, fans, and blowers required.
  • Experience with ASME and API pumps required.
  • Experience with turbo-machinery steam turbines, gas turbines, and centrifugal compressors a plus.
  • Experience with reciprocating compressors desirable.
  • Experience with fired equipment (process heaters and steam generators) desirable.
  • Experience with construction of oil and gas plant equipment desirable.
  • Familiar with commonly used mechanical engineering standards and codes including but not limited to API standards, PIP standards, ASME B73, BPVC, B31.3 and B31.1 and commonly used mechanical engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of rotating equipment inspection and testing.
  • Working knowledge of vessels, pipe, static equipment
  • Working knowledge of mechanical material handling equipment (optical sorting, extruders, silos, conveyors, shakers, hoppers, grinders, etc.) a plus
  • Basic oil and gas upstream, midstream and downstream knowledge required.


Skills Requirement:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Working knowledge of the software applicable to their expertise (e.g. Compress, Caesar II, NozzlePro, HTRI, etc.).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other design software a plus.


Communication:
  • Full fluency in English required.
  • Able to be client facing and represent the discipline.

  • Must be able to work under pressure.
