Successful candidates will be based out of our Rutherford House (Whitehaven) office delivering and supporting high hazard decommissioning projects as part of a multi-discipline team within Decommissioning Waste Services Business Unit. Location: Whitehaven (West Cumbria).

Our decommissioning services team is made up of four key areas: Waste Management and Characterisation, Radiological Protection, Environmental Services and On-site Support. We are a team of diverse professionals delivering technical and hands on expertise to clients across the nuclear industry addressing decommissioning and radiological waste management challenges.

As a decommissioning technician within the team, you'll have an opportunity to support a wide variety of decommissioning challenges supporting the four key areas which will help drive your career and strengthen your skillset. These include (but not limited to):
  • Help providing solutions to a range of technical issues relating to decommissioning including developing technical solutions to waste, environmental and radiological protection problems.
  • Producing a range of technical documentation including environmental assessments, waste management documentation and radiological protection documentation.
  • Supporting activities to ensure clients meet their permitting and legislation requirements within the highly regulated nuclear industry.
  • Supporting clients at their nuclear sites and off-site offices - this may require travel to different sites away from your local office.
  • Supporting onsite decommissioning activities through AtkinsRéalis and client led projects.

Requirements:
  • You will be someone with a passion for responsible environment and waste management, and enthusiasm for helping to provide solutions for some of the UK's most challenging decommissioning missions.
  • Good standard of literacy and the ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Innovative, open to ideas and possess a questioning attitude.
  • Highly motivated, proactive and flexible in approach, you will be willing to travel to work on client sites as required, and able and willing to work in the field should the need arise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.

Desirable:
  • Knowledge of the nuclear sector and decommissioning.
  • Understanding of radiation principles and protection requirements.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
