We are looking for an Operational Trenching Lead to join our team in Aberdeen or Zoetermeer on a staff or contract basis.

Reporting to the Seaway7 PEM Group Manager, the Operational Trenching Lead Engineer provides trenching expertise and support to projects, tenders, engineering studies, and offshore operations on a Global basis.

The role is primarily based onshore but may also require travel to site, other Seaway7 offices or to Client and Supplier offices.

What you will be doing
  • Develop the technical trenching strategy with the Engineering leadership with respect to current and anticipated industry trenching capabilities as well as the predicted nature of trenching conditions at current and future offshore wind farm sites.
  • Provide operational and engineering oversight and support to Seaway7 FEED, tender and project activities with respect to trenching and dredging.
  • Write, review and comment on relevant procedures, reports and other documentation.
  • Prepare and review technical scopes of work and make recommendations on optimum trenching solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements as well as proposing the most effective, and where appropriate innovative, solutions for trenching and dredging activities.
  • Interface with supply chain managers, tendering and project teams as well as seabed intervention team (geotechnical engineers), sub-contractors and clients.
  • Agree and monitor performance targets for third parties and projects.
  • Contribute to meetings, site visits, mobilisations, trials, and offshore works.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest techniques and equipment by way of supplier engagement and attendance at relevant technical conferences and exhibitions
  • Effectively communicate trenching and dredging risks to management, tendering and project teams and work together with them to mitigate such risks.
  • Review and distribute all trenching and dredging lessons learned and ensure Seaway7 guidelines are reviewed and updated regularly and appropriately.
  • Ensure alignment with external industry and Seaway7 standards and recommended practices and develop these further where required.
  • Contribute to commercial and contractual proposals where requested by tendering and project teams
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Seaway7 colleagues.
  • Contribute to a positive HSEQ culture within Seaway7.

What you will bring to the team

  • Proven engineering, technical, operational, and commercial knowledge of trenching (and dredging) operations.
  • Extensive experience of working in an operational trenching role, including offshore and with responsibility for writing procedures and other documentation
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of different soils conditions and assessing trenching solutions based on geotechnical guidance and reports.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and delivery to internal and customer deadlines.
  • A strategic thinker with a sound technical understanding and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage change and identify risks.
  • Willingness to travel to Seaway7 offices to work with project teams, as well as Clients and subcontractors where required.
  • Able to occasionally provide support on an on-call basis to support offshore operations.
  • Effective communication skills and a proven ability to interface between project teams, suppliers, supply chain managers and discipline engineers (especially seabed intervention)
