What can you expect...

You will be on a development pathway to guide your growth into the role of a Thermal Engineer and can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Developing a broad understanding of the thermal engineering discipline and applying this knowledge to a range of exciting projects spanning Telecoms and Navigation, Earth Observation and Science, and Exploration missions
  • Completing detailed thermal analysis to ensure the successful thermal design of spacecraft operating in a range of challenging thermal environments
  • Supporting thermal testing and the correlation thermal models to obtained test data
  • Supporting a range of "Space Physics" tasks such as aerobraking simulation, plume flux modelling, and analysis of atomic oxygen fluence
  • Utilising a range of tools such as Systema Thermica/Thermisol, ESATAN-TMS, and Hyperworks to perform simulation and modelling tasks
  • Supporting R&D activities to develop innovative new processes and technologies
  • Reporting and presenting your findings to a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Your development pathway will include a minimum of one rotational placement to support your growth into position - for this role such placements are usually within other departments to expand your knowledge of spacecraft engineering.

At the end of the 2 year development programme you will have developed into the position of Thermal Engineerwithin the Thermal Analysis & Space Physics team!

What we are looking for...

To be a successful applicant to the Airbus Global Graduate Programme, we ask that you demonstrate you have:
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent within Engineering, Physics, Programming (or similar)
  • Experience in programming (e.g. Python, Visual Basic, FORTRAN)
  • First professional experience or in the field of Engineering, Physics, Programming (or similar) would be beneficial
  • Strong verbal and written communication in our business language (English)
  • A desire to work in a collaborative team environment, focused on driving future innovation
  • The ability to be self aware and a wish to be in the driving seat of your development.

Additional desirable skills include (but are not limited to);

  • Ability to describe the thermal challenges faced by space missions and thermal management techniques available to ensure success
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (ideally for the use of data analysis).
