About this opportunity:

This position is responsible for providing technical and functional HSE support for operations on the West White Rose Installation. This role will support the operations and onboard Leadership team, including Cenovus' contractors in planning and conducting safe offshore operations. This position is responsible for supporting and advising operations on meeting the pre-determined KPS's, maintaining regulatory compliance, and executing operations in a safe and efficient manner.

This position will be initially based in the St. John's office. Prior to offshore installation, this position will rotate to Ingleside Texas in support of the project and operational readiness teams. It will then move to offshore on a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotational schedule

What you'll do:
  • Conduct regulatory compliance gap assessments through continued assurance and verification activities, conduct audits and inspections of scope specific contractors using the company-based compliance verification tools.
  • Conduct and/or support quality incident investigations as well as provide oversight and assurance on 3rd party investigations.
  • Develop, implement, and follow project specific H&S standards and procedures. Support and/or develop policies, procedures, and processes for onboard operations.
  • Support and provide oversight on the safe control of work system. This includes, but is not limited to permit to work, isolations, risk management (SJA's, FLHA's), and Safe work procedures.
  • Coordinate installation Emergency Response, including developing and organizing drills, exercises and training in alignment with regulatory requirements and established Major Accident Hazards (MAH's) and Hazard Based Emergency Response Scenarios (HaBERS) for the facility. This also includes managing manning of emergency response teams and roster development. Participate in hazard and risk assessments.
  • Act as the installations Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), providing advice on onboard radiation sources and NORMS management as well as performing onboard surveys and testing.
  • Inform and advise Installation Leadership Team and onshore support staff on matters and decisions related to process and occupational safety management and loss prevention engineering.
  • Support and execute assurance and verification activities which evaluate the implementation, execution, and performance of Cenovus's and contractor's operational management system onboard.
  • Coach and mentor Cenovus and contractor personnel in safety management and safe work practices through engaged frontline field presence and interventions.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in the field of Health Safety and Environmental Science and/or Occupational Health and Safety Certificate/Diploma or Degree from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Professional safety designation such as CRSP, CSP, ROH, or ROHT would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years specific experience in a prior HSE role including direct responsibility for the administration of Health, Safety and Environment management programs for the construction, offshore or marine industry.

This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to offshore pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a CAPP medical and BST/HUEBA testing

You must be able to travel via helicopter and boat. This position requires the successful candidate travel offshore, there you will be required to obtain and maintain medical clearance and obtain all required training necessary for offshore travel.

Training as required by the CAPP Standard Practice for Training & Qualifications of Personnel, Transport Canada, other regulatory requirements, and company required training as per the approved Cenovus Training Matrix
