Overview

Gas Technician II - M&O are responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operations of the City's gas distribution system.

Responsibilities
• Use small hand tools, tapping, and stopple equipment
• Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipe-fitting, and assisting in other pipeline maintenance as require

Operates backhoe, trenching machine, winch truck, air compressor, dump truck and other semi-heavy maintenance equipment
• Inspect equipment and make adjustments and minor repairs to maintain equipment in proper operating condition

Prepares tap cars and/ or various inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Department procedures and/ or regulatory requirements
• Perform the planning and supervision of work crew

Performs plastic pipe fusion with the use of poly fusion and electro fusion equipment

Performs leak surveys using leak detection equipment such as combustible gas indicator (CGI) or (GM) and RMLD

Responds to emergency leak calls and gas odor complaints. Checks for leaks at mains and services, meters, regulators, and on customer premises. Inspects and lights customer gas appliances

Maintain and operate self-contained breathing apparatus
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non exempt - Full-Time
• Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School/ GED
• Minimum of (3) three years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within six (6) months of hire
• Certified to fuse poly pipe

Employment Testing

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

• Drug Screening: Yes
• Physical Exam: Yes

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
