Business Manager - Operations

Your role and responsibilities

From Ensuring Operational Safety to Navigating Complex Theoretical Frameworks Big responsibilities that you, as an HSE Specialist, handle with expertise and care. What will you do at ABB? As a dedicated inspirer and sparring partner for colleagues across our Ede site, you play a key role in keeping safety at the forefront of our high-quality manufacturing operations. Safety is more than a priority for you; with your persuasive communication skills, you create strong buy-in and encourage colleagues to uphold best practices in safety and collaboration. You're the HSE Specialist in the broadest sense of the term. This means you're regularly on the production floor, ensuring all safety protocols are diligently followed. In short, you're the eyes and ears of HSE. Alongside this, you'll take on other vital tasks, such as supporting successful outcomes in various audits. In this multifaceted role, you'll be involved in theoretical, administrative, and operational activities. If there's a new legal requirement or a directive from headquarters, you take prompt action. You're also hands-on with essential reporting tasks, like compiling environmental reports. You'll take a strong, proactive approach in: • Driving behavior change among colleagues in health, safety, and environmental practices. • Implementing new legislation, policy updates, or regulations to ensure continuous compliance with certification standards. • Collaborating with other Dutch locations, international colleagues, and business partners to increase awareness around health, safety, and environmental issues. • Taking responsibility for audits and preparing statements, reports, and instructions. • Ensuring proper safety equipment and tools are in place. • Setting up and guiding circular economy initiatives. Your Team In this role, you'll work closely with a wide range of colleagues. You're part of a small local management team where everyone pitches in to keep things running smoothly. Each day starts with a team stand-up, so everyone is aligned on the day's priorities. This simple practice speaks volumes about the engaged team culture you'll be joining. You'll find plenty of freedom here, balanced by a strong sense of responsibility. There's always room for improvement, and you'll be part of a flat organization with an open culture that encourages initiative. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with various stakeholders and the site's head of operations in Ede.

Qualifications for the role

  • Independent, proactive, and professional - these qualities define you as an HSE Specialist. You have a unique ability to inspire and persuade others on matters of health, safety, and environment. Equally important, you're self-reflective and decisive. Responsibility doesn't intimidate you; it motivates you to strive for even higher standards. With your ability to work methodically and your drive to deliver the best results, you keep an eye on your colleagues' well-being. Calling you a "people person" is an understatement. Sound familiar? For this role, you also bring:
  • A higher vocational (HBO) level of thinking and working, complemented by a completed degree in Advanced Safety Studies.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, such as HSE Specialist, Safety Officer, or QHSE Manager.
  • Experience with ISO certification and familiarity with relevant standards and processes.
  • Extensive experience in a production environment, ideally with knowledge of electrical engineering and NEN 3140 standards.
  • The ability to translate theoretical concepts into actionable plans and implement them effectively.
  • Strong resilience under pressure, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks without compromising on quality.
  • Excellent social and communication skills, with a strong grasp of organizational culture. You easily interact across different levels, from executives to operational staff, and build relationships effortlessly.
  • Independence and entrepreneurial spirit; you take responsibility for your work, identify opportunities, and act on them proactively without needing constant supervision.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, in Dutch and English.
