ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross-train and be fully qualified to work in an at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: * High School
EXPERIENCE: * Experience operating Utilities systems including electrical and compressed air.
* Experience operating environmental systems.
* Experience with steam and condensate systems.
* Basic math skills.
* The ability to read and write English.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be able to make decisions without precedence contacting supervision on unusual situations.
* Manual handling up to 50 lbs.
* High manual dexterity; Close sustained visual attention.
* Constant alertness; Must be able to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Strong Interpersonal skills required
* Protective Equipment required.
* Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including all holidays.
Utilities are operated 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
* Work to the highest safety and housekeeping standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Waste water treatment: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires lab testing, operating systems from a catwalk and operating valves from catwalks and ladders.
- Waste water collection and diffuser system: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires operating valves from ladders.
- Air compressors: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of three compressors. Requires operating valves from ladders and turning wrenches to change filters.
- Mill water treatment: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires lab testing, use of tools for piping problems and operating valves from catwalks and ladders.
- Mill condensate system: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires operating valves from catwalks and ladders. Also requires traversing mill utilizing hand held meter troubleshooting points of generation to determine high conductivity.
- Mill steam system: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and controls of entire system. Requires operating valves from catwalks and ladders and the strength to operate 12" steam valves. Ability to interact with cogeneration facility operators.
- Hot water system: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires operating valves from catwalks and ladders. Manual dexterity required to operate Moore Controllers.
- Canal: Maintain water supply to mill site. Requires walking through woods to get to aqueduct, climbing ladders to get to headgates and pushing 50 lbs. of eel grass and leaves.
- Oil skimmer system: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system. Requires using tools to take unit apart to clean wiper blades.
- Mill trench system: Unsupervised control of entire system. Requires troubleshooting to find problems.
- Recognize and maintain the desired level of cleanliness in operators area of responsibility.
- Understands and follows the environmental manual to comply with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System for all appropriate areas of responsibilities as well as mandated RCRA waste handling procedures.
- Understands and complies with the general, departmental, and job specific safety rules, as well as the site safety plan Ahlstrom Fiber Composites. Complies with all lock-out / tag-out procedures, including proper entrance procedures to all PCRS. Corrects and Identifies any unsafe acts or conditions to his supervisor.
- Properly record data on data sheets, logs and control charts.
- Make any decision to shut down machines or the mill in case of an out of control environmental problem.
- Perform preventive maintenance Including: Buffer ph probes (requires chemical handling and climbing on catwalks and ladders), change pump oil (requires the use of wrenches and sockets), remove oil from oil separators, unplug chemical and stock line, take apart various water lines, vibration readings, greasing equipment and act as a helper for maintenance personnel.
- Must be able to find causes of problems that are affecting the effluent systems. This will require Interfacing with other departments, personal Investigation and troubleshooting of non-departmental equipment. This Investigation will require operating on catwalks, ladders, inside tanks, under piping and equipment.
- Aid in the cleaning of the settling basin, weak liquor tank and product liquor tank. This requires the shoveling of alum sludge and liquor sludge for 12-hour periods. It may require the use of a respirator also.
- Ability to operate a computer to input and access critical system Information.
- Must be able to perform various lab tests to insure that the condensate and effluent systems are operating correctly.
- Screw and Belt Press Systems: Unsupervised startup, shutdown, operation and control of entire system when needed. Requires operating press from catwalk, climbing ladders to tank, bending in awkward positions and collecting samples.
- Performing special projects ranging from taking parts Inventory to lab analysis. Must be able to complete projects with little guidance or supervision.
- Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and is for his/her own part responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks
