Wood is currently recruiting for a Waste Management Advisor to join its Singapore business unit focusing on coordinating the operations of the Waste Management Facility for a major onshore brownfield project in Basra, Iraq on 4 weeks on/4 weeks off rotation.

This is a full-time onsite position in Basra, Iraq, with travel requirement.

Key Objectives

Purpose of subject position
  • Coordinate the operationally of the Waste Management Facility
  • Act as subject matter expert in the Management of the Facility
  • Assist with the development of the Waste Management training of personnel
  • Ensure compliance with Iraqi regulations & waste management requirements
  • Provide environmental compliance and permit technical support to company operations, ensuring all activities adhere to environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Drive and oversee environmental protection initiatives, identifying and mitigating environmental risks, and promoting continuous improvement of the environmental management system.
  • Offer expert environmental advice and assist project teams in meeting environmental standards during project planning, construction, and operations.


Responsibilities
  • Review & communicate all deviations
  • Support liaising with the Operator to maintain regulatory compliance
  • Review and approve goals, objectives of the WMF Plans
  • Conduct environmental sitting, permitting, and due diligence to secure necessary environmental permits before project construction.
  • Develop and implement environmental monitoring and management plans to minimize environmental impacts.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of environmental incidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend preventive measures.
  • Manage vendor contracts and purchase orders, ensuring environmental projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provide project management support, ensuring environmental compliance requirements are met throughout construction and operational phases.
  • Develop and deliver environmental awareness training to enhance employees' understanding and practices of environmental protection.
  • Translate regulations and permit conditions into actionable instructions for operational teams to ensure understanding and adherence.
  • Monitor and analyze environmental data, identify trends and risks, and propose proactive measures.
  • Regularly review and update environmental policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current regulations and company standards.
  • Perform other environment-related tasks as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:
  • Broad experience and understanding of waste management facility operations & engineering functions
  • Ability to recognize improvement opportunities consistent with business unit and asset objectives
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and how this impact with waste management on a site level
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management or permitting, with preference for experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards, with skills in environmental risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Ability to independently conduct environmental audits and analyze data, providing constructive solutions.
  • Relevant environmental certifications (e.g., Registered Environmental Engineer) are preferred.

Skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in office software and environmental management systems (e.g., GIS, data analysis software).
  • Strong project management skills, capable of coordinating environmental efforts across multiple projects.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to provide solutions in complex environmental contexts.
