Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead continuous improvements in Transportation function as well as management of Key Performance Indicators to improve performance. Each day, you will be responsible for managing transportation operations, including internal teams and external providers. You will also showcase your expertise by overseeing import/export administrative activities and ensuring compliance with ABB rules and external regulations in collaboration with local and country Trade Compliance Officers. The person shall be responsible for local import/export operations. Supervises performance of customs brokers. Ensures smooth execution of operational trade and customs activities within a local unit, including relevant documentation and compliance with regulations. Support Tendering Department and Operations Department (Project Manager) in compliance with Company guidelines. The work model for this role is onsite. This role is contributing to Process Automation Business Area based in Kuwait. You will mainly be accountable for: Leading end-to-end logistics process, including transportation, freight forwarding, Transit management and logistics procurement to streamline end-to-end processes in collaboration with the other areas of operations. Ensuring timely pick-up and delivery, meeting the target KPIs for minimizing transport damage and transit risk management. Monitoring daily import/export shipments and ensures smooth customs clearance via the appointed customs brokers. Acting as point of contact for customs brokers in case of clarification needs (e.g., regarding valuation or classification of products). Understanding and applying relevant customs procedures and ensures the relevant declarations are correctly made. Auditing customs brokers regarding the correctness of customs entries, invoicing, and archiving. Ensuring all customs-related records are maintained and archived correctly. Providing reporting as required on day-to-day activities. Managing the necessary documentation and online forms for the efficient, cost-effective, and lawful execution of all import/export activities. Maintaining and sharing with colleagues, as appropriate, personal knowledge of all relevant import/export laws and procedures, tariffs, duties, licenses, and restrictions in close cooperation with local and country Trade Compliance Officers. Communicating with export- and import-related authorities and suppliers, as necessary, to ensure efficient execution. Maintaining relevant data in the local trade and customs applications (e.g., SAP Global Trade Services). Facilitating continuous review and improvement in the operational transport and trade/customs activities. Supervising customs broker's daily performance and cost, taking action to ensure compliance with associated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Supporting the development and implementation of improved processes and systems and maintains master data. Communicating with Vendors for DG Goods, Invoice and Packing Lists. Reviewing shipping documents as per INCOTEMS and as per customs and Customer requirements. Providing de guidance on Incoterms selection as per ABB guidelines during tendering and execution. RFQ to forwarders and nominate Forwarder/Award shipment, coordinating with supplier/forwarder for Pre-alert, receive pre-alert and Update Project team on the shipment status, informing warehouse / Project team on Material receipt/Shipment delivery, final delivery to Warehouse/Workshop/Project Site and shipment inspection - damage control and initiate claim process if needed and manage insurance claim process for import/export. Evaluating the selecting transportation and logistics service providers, negotiating contracts, and establishes. Delivering performance metrics to ensure high-quality service and cost-effectiveness to business. Applying and implementing PL standards, tools and processes in the area of responsibility to secure quality, delivery, cost and sustainability. Applying standards on health, safety, environment and business ethics within operational work, contract management and negotiations. Ensuring supply chain processes meet legal requirements and standards. Resolving issues that come up (e.g., delays in delivery, accidents) Collaborating with other departments to create coordinated plans for business. Working directly with Sales, Bids/Tendering and Operation departments to determine most cost-effective offers of materials. Executing effective and transparent communication internally, externally and between different units and centers. Ensuring all logistics services are covered under logistics purchase orders and review/scrutinize the logistics service invoices. Overseeing regular performance reviews with relevant suppliers to identify opportunities for cost savings. Working proactively to resolve issues related to T&L in transit issue, cost, quality, and delivery. Standardizing processes and implements routines as per Group directives/instructions. Finding cost-effective solutions for supply chain processes. Delivering and participates in training programs as required for compliance and professional development.

Qualifications for the role

  • Preferably Graduate engineer with either Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation with min 6-8 year of Experience in Sourcing in Project Business
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in end-to-end transport and logistics management, including import and export operations and possess knowledge of international and domestic shipping.
  • Highly adept in tools like Transport Management Systems (TMS) and the complete logistics process including transportation, freight forwarding, and warehousing.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills and contract management Know how.
  • Previous experience in Oil & Gas and Power &Water business is an added advantage.
  • Experience in SAP MM Module, preferable.
  • Quick learner with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a variety of challenges.
  • Ability to conduct detailed procedures in a time constrained environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Arabic is an added advantage.
