Location: Office-based, Qatar

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Surveyor to join our team for a long-term contract role. This position involves conducting detailed surveys to detect and map underground services and ensure that all geographic data is accurately integrated into the corporate GIS system. The Surveyor will also play a vital role in maintaining survey equipment, managing survey activities, and working closely with other teams to ensure precision in mapping and data collection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underground Service Mapping: Responsible for planning and conducting surveys to detect and map underground services (electric, instrumentation, telecom, fiber optic cables, and pipelines) to update the corporate GIS.
• Field Surveying: Perform underground service detection using equipment such as cable locators, scanners, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in oil and gas operational areas.
• Data Processing: Process survey data after network adjustments and geographic coordinate transformation. Prepare survey drawings using AutoCAD.
• GIS Integration: Overlay surveyed data on existing facility data in ArcGIS desktop software to ensure no conflicts and accurate data integration.
• Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with field personnel, Senior Designers, and Senior GIS Engineers to identify, locate, and map underground and above-ground services.
• Data Mining: Extract relevant data from multi-disciplinary engineering drawings for GIS updates.
• Dimensional Checks: Perform site engineering dimensional checks for ongoing civil construction projects to ensure site conditions align with design drawings.
• Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance for in-house and outsourced projects to ensure survey methodologies and procedures are fit for purpose.
• Tender Evaluation: Review technical aspects of tenders related to surveying and mapping activities and participate in the tender evaluation process.
• Contractor Supervision: Oversee and ensure that surveying methodologies and data collection activities by contractors comply with health and safety requirements and contract specifications.
• Survey Equipment Maintenance: Maintain survey equipment and control points and keep updated on technological advances in Geomatics to recommend appropriate tools for accurate data collection.
• LiDAR Data Collection: Witness and advise on LiDAR and other data collection activities conducted by contractors.
• Work Conditions: Ability to work in harsh onshore and offshore environments, both in hot and cold weather conditions.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

• B.Sc. in Geomatics, Geodetic Engineering, Surveying, or a Higher Technical Diploma related to surveying and mapping.
• Membership of a recognized professional institution would be advantageous.

Experience:

• 10 years of surveying experience, with at least 5 years in the oil and gas industry.
• Expert-level knowledge of underground service mapping techniques and their applicability across different ground conditions and utility materials.
• At least 5 years of experience in underground services detection and mapping using equipment such as cable locators, scanners, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
• Strong expertise in using field surveying equipment such as GNSS, Total Station, Multi-Station (MS60), and Digital Level.
• Ability to understand and extract geographic data from multi-disciplinary engineering drawings.
• Excellent knowledge of survey data processing software like Trimble Business Center, Leica Geo Office, and proficiency in using AutoCAD to prepare survey drawings.
• Working knowledge of ArcGIS desktop/Pro software to visualize, query, and analyze geographic data.
