Job Overview:
The Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for the oil and gas field is responsible for overseeing the electrical maintenance activities on-site, ensuring that all electrical systems and equipment operate efficiently and safely. This role includes supervising a team of electrical technicians, coordinating maintenance schedules, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The supervisor will be a key leader in maintaining the performance and reliability of electrical infrastructure, including power generation, distribution systems, and equipment in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of electrical maintenance technicians, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and industry standards.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and equipment, including power generation units, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and motors.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs: Oversee the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical faults and failures in equipment, ensuring quick resolution and minimal downtime of critical field equipment.
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, API, IEC) to maintain a safe work environment and ensure operational compliance.
- Electrical System Monitoring: Monitor the performance and health of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and control systems, and take proactive steps to address potential issues before they lead to failures.
- Work Scheduling and Coordination: Plan, assign, and prioritize electrical maintenance tasks, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with operational priorities, minimizing disruptions to production activities.
- Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of electrical parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring timely procurement and availability of necessary materials for maintenance tasks.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and compliance documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other teams, such as operations and mechanical maintenance, to ensure that electrical maintenance schedules are aligned with overall field operations and minimize downtime.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvement in electrical maintenance processes, develop and implement corrective actions, and promote best practices to enhance system reliability and performance.
- Emergency Response: Provide leadership and support during electrical emergencies or equipment failures, quickly assessing and resolving issues to prevent further damage and downtime.
- Training and Development: Ensure ongoing training of electrical technicians to enhance their technical skills, including safety practices, equipment handling, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Budget Management: Assist in the management of the electrical maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining high operational standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or vocational training in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Systems, or a related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role in the oil and gas industry or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including power generation and distribution, motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
- Expertise in troubleshooting electrical equipment and systems in a field environment.
- Familiarity with electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations specific to the oil and gas industry (e.g., NEC, IEC, API).
- Proficient in the use of maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS) and work order software.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor technical staff.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize work effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to report to management and collaborate with other departments.
Desired Skills:
- Electrical certifications (e.g., IECEx, ATEX, OSHA 30-Hour Electrical Safety) are highly preferred.
- Experience with electrical power systems (HV/LV) and associated equipment in the oil and gas industry, such as generators, motors, transformers, and switchgear.
- Knowledge of PLC systems, automation controls, and instrumentation is an advantage.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques for electrical systems.
- Experience with troubleshooting hazardous area electrical equipment and systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks as necessary.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various environmental conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures, noisy environments).
- Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as electrical gloves, safety harnesses, and flame-resistant clothing.
