Process Safety Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive process safety management (PSM) systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct process hazard analyses (PHA), hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), and other risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
- Compliance and Auditing: Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations, and conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations of process safety incidents, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Safety Improvement Initiatives: Identify opportunities for improving process safety performance and lead the implementation of safety improvement initiatives.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams on process safety matters.
- Safety Training: Develop and deliver process safety training programs for employees and contractors, fostering a culture of safety awareness and continuous learning.
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, and coordinate emergency response drills and exercises.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of process safety activities, incidents, and compliance status, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Project Support: Provide process safety expertise for projects involving new installations, modifications, and expansions, ensuring safety considerations are integrated into project design and execution.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community organizations, to promote process safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of [15] years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or oil and gas industry.
- Strong knowledge of process safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and NFPA.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in process safety analysis software (e.g., PHA-Pro, BowTieXP).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as API, CCPS, and IEC.
- Knowledge of process control and automation systems.
- Experience in managing large-scale safety improvement projects.
- Understanding of human factors and their impact on process safety.
