Principal Control & Instrument Engineer
Contract– Field-Based (Iraq, 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation)
Key Duties Will Include:
You will play a central role in core project delivery and I&C leadership, including:
- Managing instrument & control design contractors to ensure scopes meet all operational and technical requirements
- Leading the Instrument Discipline, acting as a subject matter expert for cross-discipline teams
- Delivering hands-on expertise in ICSS (preferably Emerson Delta V), Schneider PLC, Fire & Gas systems, process instrumentation, control valves, ESDVs, wellhead control panels
- Coordination and oversight of hydraulic control systems, oil metering, compressor controls
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant international standards and specifications
- Preparation of technical specifications, scopes of work, inspection & test requirements, and material requisitions
- Planning instrument team manpower allocation
- Providing guidance on OT Cyber Security for Instrument & Control
- Monitoring and reporting engineering and design progress to management
- Leading technical evaluation of vendor quotations and preparing bid comparisons
- Supporting project plans, schedules, cost estimation, and status updates
- Ensuring technical delivery within agreed schedule, quality and budget
- In-depth involvement in Process Safety, including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments, and design reviews
- Reviewing and consolidating vendor documentation, managing inspections and testing
- Specifying and ordering bulk materials for instrumentation scopes
- Training, mentoring, and coaching local Kurdish engineers
- Occasional travel or office visits as part of project delivery
Requirements:
We are seeking an expert Principal I&C Engineer with the following background:
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in a Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer or equivalent senior engineering role
- Demonstrated experience as a Technical Authority on major oil & gas projects
- Proven hands-on expertise in ICSS, ideally Emerson Delta V
- Strong background in design and construction of instrumentation and controls
- Extensive experience with process safety methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL)
- Hands-on delivery with high H2S environments and prior operator experience highly desirable
- Degree qualified (Chartered Engineer preferred)
- Fluent English speaker with outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Strong ability to work as part of multi-discipline and multicultural teams
- Proficient with all major codes, standards, and instrumentation software
- Excellent project management, technical reporting, and vendor management skills
Working Conditions:
- Field-based position in Iraq, 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation
- Visits to office as required
