Context & Environment
This internship is offered under R&D Solar Theme 1: Resource & Yield and isco-supervised by Digital Solutions team. Located in Saclay & La Défense, you will work closely with a data scientist and industry experts to support PV deployment globally through "Resource Assessment and Forecast" project.
Activities
As a Photovoltaic soiling modeling using global reanalysis data M/F trainee, your missions will be to contribute to the ongoing PV soiling modeling efforts, with the objectives to better:
The ambition is to support decision making providing insights worldwide and with no in-situ measurement available (prospection phase prior any installation) leveraging global reanalysis data.
Key Tasks:
You will evolve within a team of experienced professionals and with a tutor-coach, the reference for your future profession. Individualized support will help you develop your autonomy and lead you to your diploma!
Candidate Profile
Currently enrolled in an engineering school or Master's program in the data sciences field, are you looking for an 6-month end-of-study internship starting in March 2025?
Do you have experience in Data Siences and knowledge of Physics, Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology Applied Mathematics, or Atmospheric Chemistry Transport Modelling ? Do you know Python and Git?
Are you comfortable with office automation and familiar with the Office suite? You'll be using Excel, Word and Powerpoint in particular.
Are you a self-starter, rigorous and a team player? Can you take the initiative?
A professional language of French will be essential for this position.

Activities
As a Photovoltaic soiling modeling using global reanalysis data M/F trainee, your missions will be to contribute to the ongoing PV soiling modeling efforts, with the objectives to better:
- Estimate energy losses due to soiling
- Inform optimal cleaning strategies for PV sites (future and existing)
The ambition is to support decision making providing insights worldwide and with no in-situ measurement available (prospection phase prior any installation) leveraging global reanalysis data.
Key Tasks:
- Literature Review: Study PV soiling and Dry Deposition models for particulate matter. A particular attention will be given to available models with respect to their respective experimental and climatic setting.
- Model Enhancement: Propose improvements to model physical parameters with expert guidance.
- Data Exploration: Investigate various particulate matter data sources (e.g., EAC4 from CAMS) and meteorological data (e.g., ERA5).
- Model Benchmarking: Evaluate models performance using soiling measurements from TotalEnergies experimental sites.
- Uncertainty Analysis: Propose a method for uncertainty assessment
- Results Presentation: Present findings to the team and at the annual MATHIAS Conference (poster presentation).
