The Middle Office NA area is responsible for the modeling, valuation, analysis, and reporting of risks and economic results within the North American Gas and Power Trading business unit. Joining as a senior team member, you will provide guidance to the team to advance the risk analysis of the portfolio and results. This role is strongly recommended for an experienced individual with a strong commodities trading background who has shown the ability to build and maintain relationships on the trade floor as well as with other key stakeholders. Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of four market risk analyst at varying career stages
- Responsible for timely daily analysis and reporting to traders and senior management of risk and P/L profiles, leveraging your up-to-date knowledge of the relevant energy commodity trading markets and products (primarily physical gas, LNG, financial gas and power)
- Review and propose improvements to product modeling and valuation (conceptually). This will require a solid understanding of the value of optionality in energy commodity transactions as well as storage and transport assets.
- Work with business support groups to implement approved concepts into our ETRM (Allegro/Horizon).
- Identify and implement with the team operational improvements to our analysis and report process and tools used (SQL, Excel). Define requirements for additional and replacement analysis tools and be a strong support to implementation once approved.
- Liaise with credit risk, technology, and business support groups to ensure integrity of market and risk data used in the quantification of risk exposure
- Consult in the development of risk systems, policies and controls used to measure and monitor risk exposures
- Direct collaboration with other business areas as needed.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher, in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics or Business,
- 7+ years of relevant experience in a commodities trading Front or Middle Office role.
Must demonstrate:
- Extensive trading or risk management expertise in North American Natural Gas or Power markets with strong, applied knowledge of product modeling (generation, storage and transport assets, basis, base and peak contracts, etc.) and respective valuation.
- Ability to lead and develop a small team of professionals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, i.e. ability to liaise with senior trading management on sensitive issues relating to the profitability of transactions and with respect to adherence to risk management policies and procedures
- The ability to design, develop and maintain analysis and simulation tools.
- Knowledge of ETRM systems (i.e. Allegro) and previous experience with quantitative risk tools (i.e. FEA, Lacima)
