PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, and comfortable environment by supervising the operation and maintenance of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in the district in a condition of safety, neatness, and aesthetic attractiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  1. High school diploma or GED required
  2. Technical school preferred
  3. Refrigeration recovery certification
  4. Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  1. Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
  2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
  3. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  4. Ability to use hand and power tools
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computers (smartphone, iPad, laptops)
  6. HVAC controls software systems
Experience:
  1. At least five years experience in HVAC field/Controls field


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  1. Assists in the operation and maintenance of all HVAC and refrigeration equipment in the district.
  2. Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including rooftop equipment.
  3. Installs new heating and air conditioning systems and components.
  4. Relocates and expands existing HVAC systems as needed.
  5. Repairs, replaces, or calibrates controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
  6. Fabricates, assembles, and installs duct work and piping according to specifications and code.
  7. Wires and connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
  8. Maintains Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
  9. Maintains preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC tools and equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils.
  10. Performs duct cleaning and air quality testing as needed.
  11. Selects material and hardware and makes time and materials estimates.
  12. Maintains accurate records on material and labor used.
  13. Inspects jobs upon completion and ensures areas are clean.
  14. Works with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  15. Detects needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
  16. Responds to emergency calls as needed.
  17. Schedules, monitor and control the functions of Direct Digital Control (DDC) HVAC control systems as a primary function.
  18. Irregular hours.
  19. Works with Energy Management to implement energy conservation measures.
  20. Configures, troubleshoots and program HVAC controllers.
  21. Works outside of regular assigned works schedule to include night and/or weekend duty as requested.
  22. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.; ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition and operates tolls and equipment accordingly
  23. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  24. Ensures vehicles, equipment, and tool boxes are locked and secure at all times while vehicle is left unattended.
  25. Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  26. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED:
Meter, gage, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch.
Vehicle and related equipment:
Light van or truck seat belts, shoulder harness, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, radio communication equipment

Mental Demands:
Ability to concentrate, communicate effectively (verbal and written), interpret, reason, read, compute, instruct and maintain emotional control under stress; ability to handle several projects at the same time with frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Ability to frequently lift and carry heavy weights (45 pounds and over), sitting, standing, walking, climbing (stairs, ladder, scaffold, or ramps), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speech, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, frequent driving and traveling, exposure to temperature extremes (hot or cold), exposure to humidity extremes, exposures to noise, exposure to low or intense illumination, exposure to vibration, exposure to microwaves, exposure to biological hazards
