What Nuclear Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy.
This Apprentice, Nuclear Pharmacy will be trained as a nuclear pharmacy technician and eventually advancing to the skills and tasks of a pharmacist.

Shift/Schedule
- Per diem position. Will work typically full-time over the summer then weekends, breaks or holidays as applicable based on pharmacy needs and availability.
- Candidate must be flexible to work different days, schedules, come in early or stay late, hours or overtime based on business needs.
Responsibilities
Under immediate direction of a qualified licensed Nuclear Staff Pharmacist, the Nuclear Pharmacy Apprentice assists with basic high-tech pharmacy services by preparing, dispensing, and distributing quality radiopharmaceuticals according to the rules and regulations of the State Board of Pharmacy. This role has responsibility for:
- Assisting in preparing and dispensing radiopharmaceuticals in keeping with the prescription and Company, State and Federal regulations
- Assisting in providing follow up service to the client or health care provider on an as needed basis
- Assisting in assaying medications to determine identity, purity and strength
- Assisting in performing white blood cell labeling
- Entering data regarding daily elutions, kit preparations, and incoming inventory into computer
- Verifying physical inventory with computer records
- Maintaining lab equipment by performing checks and tests on a regular basis
- Performing other duties as required to insure a safe and efficient pharmacy operation
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy
- RI Pharmacy intern license
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- 2 - 4 years of work experience preferred
- Must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record
- Minimum of 18 years of age due to driving of company owned vehicle
- Customer service skills
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
- Flexibility to work various days, schedules and hours as needed
- Ability to use computers and tablets

- Works on assignments that are moderately difficult requiring judgment in resolving issues
- May assist in recommendation of processes on new assignments
- Adheres to all quality guidelines
- Works with limited supervision. Work occasionally involves review of output by work lead or supervisor
- May provide general guidance or technical assistance to less experienced team members
- Pay Rate: $24.10/hr
