ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

(Illustrative, not inclusive)
  • Strong background in commercial steam and hot water heating system
  • Knowledge and experience in the repair and replacement of pumps, compressors, steam valves, plumbing and piping
  • Knowledge and experience of HVAC mechanical systems and pneumatic controls
  • S-2 license minimum
  • Must have experience in Building Management Systems
  • Must have experience in repairing a Building Management System
  • Must have experience to work on all types of boilers and furnaces
  • Be able to troubleshoot and make safe HVAC equipment
  • Coordinated with school activities, other trades and public utilities
  • Inspects new equipment installations performed by contractors and reports performance status to maintenance supervisors
  • Be capable and able to operate snowplow, sanding and lawn equipment
  • This position also includes, but not limited to:
  • Possess a strong background in all facets of general maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and be self sufficient
  • Snow removal and grounds work
  • Ability to be productive with other tradesman
  • Assist other tradesman and staff without incident
  • Must be able to work cooperatively in and around schools without disturbing students
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, execute work orders and account for your time
  • Performs other tasks as assigned

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Involves skilled work in assembling, installing and repairing boilers, HVAC and Building Management Systems

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain all types of piping
  • Ability to maintain all types of boilers
  • Ability to implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment
  • Ability to learn and apply operating procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret written and/or oral instructions
  • Ability to meet predetermined deadlines
  • Ability to perform strenuous, physical work
  • Ability to work flexible hours and/or shifts
  • Ability to withstand heights and perform work safely
  • Ability to climb and work using a ladder
  • Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods

QUALIFICATIONS:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or other equivalent (i.e., GED, college, technical, or trade school transcript, foreign equivalency, etc.)
  • S-2 license minimum

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Connecticut Driver's License. Must be maintained for the duration of the assignment
  • Copy of driving history issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Minimum five (5) years in a commercial/industrial setting
