The Position
The City of Beaverton supplies safe and reliable drinking water to about 70,000 residents within Beaverton City Limits. Take the first step toward a fulfilling career in public utilities by joining the Beaverton Public Works team as a Water Meter Installer (classification: ).
Water Meter Installers will install commercial and residential water meters throughout the City of Beaverton as part of the city's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. Installers also perform maintenance and minor repairs, respond to inquiries about water leaks and billing, and provide other general water system troubleshooting.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone enjoys the variety of a job that's often out in the field, likes interacting with Beaverton residents, finds satisfaction in troubleshooting and problem-solving, and has a good eye for accurate recordkeeping.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU-classified, limited-duration position, which is bond-funded through December 2028. The schedule will be four ten-hour days each week, with either Monday or Friday off.

Compensation
Wage range: $21.88 - $29.31 hourly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.

Responsibilities
- Install water meter boxes and Advanced Meter Reading/Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMR/AMI) equipment.
- Perform other meter maintenance, including troubleshooting, minor repair, and replacement of meters.
- As part of a 3-installer team, install 500-600 meters monthly.
- Provide AMI-related customer service, including special meter reading and responding to billing, water leak, and water service inquiries.
- Use hand tools and other equipment to install meters.
- Maintain accurate records of work, including computer data entry.
- Additional duties are outlined in the class specification.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; and
- Some experience in general construction and maintenance; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.
- First Aid and CPR certification required after hire.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
