The Storm Maintenance Division constructs, repairs, and maintains the city's stormwater systems. The team is filling two positions: a Technician and an Equipment Operator. The Technician performs and assists with regular and recurring maintenance of city stormwater and wastewater collections infrastructure. The Equipment Operator uses a variety of heavy equipment to facilitate those projects and will primarily operate a CCTV truck to perform inspections on underground infrastructure.

Compensation
Wage range:
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.

Responsibilities
Technician
- Install, maintain, and repair utility lines. Set up traffic control safety zones. Perform flagging functions. Inspect and test lines using a variety of equipment and chemicals.
- Assist equipment operator with the operation of equipment. Install various cutting attachments including field repairs to machine and device adjustments. Maintain equipment and tools.
- Assist in the maintenance and installation of Vegetated Water Quality Facilities.
- Set up shoring and enter confined spaces. Keep records of confined space entry and equipment in good working order.
- Update GIS maps used in field, documenting new or deficient information.
- Employees schedule may change with minimal notice for emergency response needs.
- Other duties outlined in the classification.
Equipment Operator
- Operate vehicles, tools and equipment required for maintenance of stormwater & Wastewater department.
- Perform duties of Utility Worker and Operations Technician as required.
- Ensure proper functioning of all electrical components. Use computer and TV to ensure recording quality of underground utilities.
- Coordinate the repair of sanitary sewer/storm drainage systems requiring excavation and retrofitting of sections of pipe, and replacement or addition of manholes, pollution control devices or catch basin structures.
- Install, construct, maintain and repair City utility lines. Inspect and test lines utilizing a variety of large and small equipment and chemicals. Read and analyze engineering as-builts to ensure proper installation.
- Read and analyze recorded mapping systems and footage for use on replacement projects.
- Provide leadership to crew and resolve site issues in absence of crew lead. Organize site approach. Maintain safe worksite.
- Inspect installations and communicate with City engineering, planning, and project lead. Complete as-builts and report findings to engineers.
- Oversee and/or set up traffic control for work sites. Perform flagging functions.

Qualifications
Public Works Technician
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, and
- 3 years of experience in operations, installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of street structures, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
- Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License with tank endorsement within 360 days of hire.
- Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Operator level I certification within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check, physical exam, and pre-employment drug screen.
Equipment Operator
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and
- 4 years of experience in operations, installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of street structures, with one year operating heavy equipment, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.
- Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Operator level II certification within 1 year of hire.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License with tank endorsement within 360 days of hire.

- Operators: $28.33 - $37.96 hourly
