2024-2025 SY: HVAC LEAD (ANTICIPATED)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:To keep the District's HVAC in such a state of operating excellence that they present as few problems or interruptions as possible to the educational program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED, and HVAC trade school certification; able to read written instructions, understand verbal instructions, and complete written reports.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Minimum Experience: 5 years' experience in maintaining Chiller and Boiler required in a school district. Able to troubleshoot residential, commercial, or instructional HVAC repair and supervision of people in related field; Class B air-conditioning license; current Universal Refrigerant Recovery license.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasionally prolonged and irregular hours.
Ability to lift and carry 55 or more pounds without assistance; continual moderate lifting and carrying (15-55 pounds); occasional reaching above shoulder level; continuous use of fingers; continual standing and walking; frequent bending and stopping; ability to climb ladders; and frequent operation of a motor vehicle; ability to distinguish basic colors.
Ability to work outdoors and indoors; occasional need to work above and below ground; exposure to heat, cold and humidity; exposure to asbestos containing materials, grease and oils, solvents, and electrical energy; and exposure to machinery with moving parts.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

- Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of mechanical electrical repair.
- Demonstrated ability to work and get along with people.
- Possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license and prove insurability with the district's insurance carrier.
- Working knowledge of chilled water plant/hot water plant operations, preventive maintenance and repair.
- Working knowledge of Energy Management Systems and controls.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications may be appropriate and acceptable.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Diagnoses causes malfunctions to HVAC systems.
- Repair or replace failed components or systems in a skilled and safe manner.
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation of, reciprocating chillers, and centrifugal chillers (Trane, Carrier, Lennox, McQuay, etc.) General knowledge of cooling towers and circulating pumps; direct-expansion air-conditioning units, package units, split systems
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation of low-pressure steam boilers (Fitzgibbons, Kewanee, Williams-Davis, etc.) and hot water boilers (Weben-Jaro, Weil McLain, Peerless, etc.).
- Be experienced in pneumatic controls and energy management controls systems.
- Be experienced in boiler controls and operation of same.
- Distribute workload in HVAC department tin absence of supervisor.
- Give on-job instructions and training to HVAC Technician.
- Promote high standards of safety in all connected work areas.
- Respond to pages in a timely manner while serving on-call duty.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Utilities Foreman or supervisor in line of authority
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Utility Foreman or as directed by supervisors within the line of authority in the Facilities Department.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES:
- Directly supervises 6 employees in the HVAC Section and 3 employees in the Preventative Maintenance Section. Performs supervisory responsibilities in the distribution of daily work order assignments. Ensures that the staff abides by Irving ISD policies and procedures.
