Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Nuclear Safety Engineerto join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will work within the Nuclear Safety organization with duties to include: preparation, revision, and review of documents/procedures, Preliminary Documented Analyses (DOE-STD-1189), High Material at Risk (MAR) evaluations, Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs). The position also includes preparation of documents necessary to support the development or changes to the WIPP Safety Basis when necessary. Requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Environmental. The successful candidate must have experience interfacing with various levels of management, internal and external, on large projects similar to WIPP.
Expectation includes: Addressing compliance issues from internal and external sources, overviewing internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs; following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and mentoring of Junior Nuclear Safety analysts in Safety Basis development and maintenance. This position is a Safety Basis Subject Matter Expert.

**This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM). Therefore, related experience may substitute for education at a rate of six semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 credit hours. When combined with experience, completion of technical portions of an engineering, engineering technology, or related science program may substitute for the baccalaureate or associate degree. Successful completion must be determined by a transcript or certification by an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the US Department of Education. Completion of 80 semester credit hours may be substituted for the baccalaureate requirement, and 43 semester credit hours for the associate degree in technical subjects related to the position.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Minimum salary $103,045 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate's relevant experience and education.

- Bachelor's degree in Physical Science or Engineering** with nine (9) years of experience with any combination of the following: DOE Facility Safety Basis development, implementation, or maintenance, or WIPP Operations is required.

Preferred Requirements:
- Broad, experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and engineering principles, methods and associated regulatory requirements is desired.
- Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
