Duties
As an Energy Industry Analyst, some of your typical work assignments may include:
- GS-9: Assisting in preparing energy industry-related studies, summaries, or surveys for use by senior staff as an aid in decision-making, for use in memoranda, orders and other documents. Preparing notices, orders, and memoranda to the Commission relating to regulatory data and information contained in Commission filings.
GS-11: Providing explanations or technical assistance on routine regulatory matters to other government agencies or for various issues within Commission jurisdiction. Participating in the review and evaluation of various team or group studies or analyses with responsibility for specific areas. Providing input into final products that are based on individual research, fact-finding, or analysis. - GS-9: Conducting, or participating in the review and analysis of, regulatory issues, data and other documents associated with Commission filings and/or other regulatory documents to ensure consistency with pertinent regulatory principles and Commission policies. Providing recommendations for his/her assigned area of study for use by higher-level specialists. Conducting or participating in the review and analysis of regulatory data and documents associated with the regulation of electric utilities and/or natural gas pipeline companies.
GS-11: Performing analyses of moderately complex regulatory issues associated with filings and rulemakings for the purpose of identifying emerging issues, the implications of regulatory policies for new technologies, and potential changes to Commission policies. As appropriate, developing recommendations to resolve issues for use by the team leader or supervisor. Analyzing and reviewing a variety of conventional regulatory data and documents associated with the regulation of electric utilities and natural gas pipeline companies for matters within his/her designated area of responsibility. - GS-9: Contacting electric utilities and/or natural gas pipeline companies, when necessary, regarding elementary regulatory policies. Participating in, and providing staff support for, technical conferences or other meetings as directed.
GS-11: Establishing and maintaining contact with representatives of electric utilities and/or natural gas pipeline companies. Participating as a technical staff representative at technical conferences and other meetings to discuss moderately complex issues. Consulting with various specialists or professionals to obtain information needed to analyze or assess routine matters pending before the Commission. Discussing pertinent regulatory policies, Commission rules, regulations, precedents and practices, technical issues involved in filings, and ways to resolve problems, avoid the need for formal hearings, or narrow issues when hearings are necessary.
