Job Shift: Day - Fulltime

Job Summary

The Operations and Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the plant. The Operations Manager directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies those areas which may need improvement or further development. The Operations Manager assures that plant operating conditions and compliance regulations are always kept within optimum limits.

Job Functions

• Ensure that thermal and electrical outputs are maintained at maximum levels and efficiencies.
• Report normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager.
• Provide guidance to the maintenance lead relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities.
• Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility.
• Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
• Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and ensure that operating policies and procedures are kept up to date.
• Performs daily compliance tasks, including monitoring, reporting, recordkeeping, and training.
• Collect, analyze, and correlate environmental, safety, and NERC data to maintain and improve plant performance, reliability, and compliance status
• Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise.
• Ensure that the water chemistry program for the plant is properly implemented, including testing, inspections, and maintenance of water treatment program. Provide guidance to the chemist in administering the chemistry program.
• Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of operating personnel. Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.
• The Operations Manager operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints.
• The Operations Manager encounters new and varied work situations involving a high degree of complexity.
• The Operations Manager must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.
• The Operations Manager must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and subordinate operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
• The Operations Manager must ensure duties are performed in such a way as to result in an optimum cost benefit ratio.
• All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.
• The Operations Manager supervises subordinate operations personnel and cooperates with the Business Manager as needed in the daily operation of the plant.
• Any other duties and tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required. 5+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
• Gas turbine experience highly desirable.
• At least 4 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel required.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

• Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
• Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
• Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
• Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
• Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
• Basic data entry/computer skills
• Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

• Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
• Work with hazardous materials may be required.
• Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
• Includes working indoors and outdoors.
