JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently looking for an UXO/GIS Land Surveyor to join our team in Basra, Iraq on a 5 weeks on / 3weeks off rotational work

Purpose of subject position
This position will support key aspects of the concession development program and contribute to further development of the GIS Database and UXO Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Support SHE Operations "Nobody Gets Hurt" initiative.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to field survey staff.
  • Collaborate with the GIS/UXO team to define work requirements, prioritize assignments, establish milestones, and meet project expectations.
  • Responsible and accountable for client expectations with job safety, health, environmental and security.

GIS / Land Survey Responsibilities
  • Research, design, propose and implement efficient and safe methodology for field survey data collection and survey processes integrated with existing GIS and UXO Remediation systems.
  • Utilize specialized equipment (GPS, DGPS, UXO metal detectors and geographic information system [GIS] devices) to survey, locate, trace, measure and record boundaries and infrastructure in the field.
  • Conduct field surveillance in order to monitor, survey and report field development and any anomalies (spills, leaks, environmental breaches and any directed focus by management).
  • Examine and compare existing and contemporaneous records to ensure data accuracy.
  • Produce detailed follow-up documentation including plots, sketch maps and reports on all surveys using prepared templates and processes.
  • Process project as-built information, conduct complex data verifications and analysis.

UXO Responsibilities
  • Monitoring and reporting of daily operational sites and provide direct field oversight of UXO contractors
  • Provide UXO Banksman and Support to Survey services.
  • Assess UXO statuses and disseminate UXO information to concerned departments.
  • Maintain project documentation databases, ensuring a thorough QA / QC process is followed with all documentation and filing
  • Conduct UXO reviews, checks and UXO risk assessments initiated through Permit to Work System.
  • Delivery UXO Awareness Trainings.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualification
  • IMAS (International Mine Action Standards) EOD Level 2 or above certification.
  • A Diploma / Certification in field survey / engineering / topography or a related qualification is required.
  • A diploma may be substituted with 5+ years of proven oil and gas engineering field experience and / or 5+ years of proven demining / UXO and GIS field experience in support of oil and gas operations and development or humanitarian demining activities.
  • The candidate must have experience with data integration and management, database development, data automation, and web mapping development.
  • Experience with Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) / Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) or humanitarian/commercial demining geodatabases is required.
  • The candidate must have the following technical knowledge, to include: ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Pro software, ArcGIS for Server v10.1 or higher, ArcGIS Online, ArcSDE geodatabase and Oracle or SQL Server RDBMS, AutoCAD.
  • Ability to use PC applications including, but not limited to: Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Skills
  • Good physical fitness (stamina) is required (30% of the job is fieldwork that involves working outdoors in all types of weather and over rough terrain, walking long distances and standing for extended periods while taking measurements).
  • The candidate must have excellent reading, writing, and spoken English proficiency and should be a strong communicator of technical language to native and non-native English speakers.
  • Desired skills include strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, problem solving, delivering solutions and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competence in the preparation and delivery of training and presentations.
  • Ability to handle multiple job tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact in a multi-cultural environment.
