Standard Utility Construction
Job Description: Responsible for assisting crew with tasks as required to perform underground gas and electric construction installation and repair projects, i.e.: material loading and unloading, equipment loading and unloading, hand digging, gathering and assembling material required to complete tasks at multiple locations, install conduits cables, distribution equipment and digging equipment operation. Not qualified for unsupervised energized work. Position is 5 day work week, 40-50 hours and on call as needed, travel may also be required. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. May be required to work long and unpredictable hours.
Minimum Requirements: 1 year minimum underground electric distribution construction work experience required. Must be able to operate track hoes, trenchers and possibly rubber-tire backhoes, must be familiar with underground utility construction i.e. trenching, shoring, pipe laying, and cable pulling. If not certified, will be required to attend certification courses. Requires basic skills in math. Must be able to fluently read, write, speak and comprehend English. Must follow all safe work practices. Must be computer literate. Based on the nature of work at Standard Utility, even if not driving company vehicles, all employees are required to have a valid Texas Driver License in good standing throughout their employment with us.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background check, physical agility test, and drug testing.
Preferred Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Additional formal or occupational education focused on electrical services and construction is helpful. State wide travel preferable. Valid Class A CDL and DOT Medical Card Preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work at least 8 hours per day.
- Vertically transfer materials weighing up to 25 lbs. from a start height of 0 inches to an end height of 64 inches from the floor up to the trailer 3 times per hour during activity spurts.
- Vertically and horizontally transfer hand tools and earth utilizing upper body forces only requiring a mechanical force up to 30 lbs. at a rate of up to 90 times per hour, up to one-half hour continuously, for a total of up to 3 hours during activity spurts.
- Vertically transfer trailer ramps in a team lift, requiring up to 32.5 lbs. of vertical force to the start height of 0 - 20" and during the end height of 20 - 0 inches 2 times per hour. In between start and end heights there are significantly reduced horizontal forces occurring.
- Vertically transfer 18 lbs. from a height as low as 4 inches to an end height of 64 inches from the floor into a storage rack on trailer, after having horizontally transferred it a distance of up to 300 feet up to 6 times per hour during activity spurts.
- Manipulate excavator, mini sky track, or forklift bilateral controls requiring as much as 3 lbs. of force at a rate as high as 30 times per minute for up to 2 hours continuously for a total up to 6 hours.
- Vertically transfer wire off a mounted spool or into conduit utilizing upper body forces only requiring average forces of 20 - 30 lbs. from a height of between 55 - 67 inches, up to the equivalent of 130 feet (about 25 continuous pulls/pushes) 2 times per hour.
- Vertically transfer wire off the mounted spool or into conduit utilizing upper body forces only requiring peak forces up to 65 lbs. from a height between 55 - 67 inches, up to the equivalent of 15 feet (about 5 pulls/pushes) 2 times per hour.
- Vertically and horizontally transfer around a horizontal axis the trailer feet crank handle, utilizing upper body forces only, requiring a force up to 45 lbs. for 30 continuous revolutions at a height as high as 56 inches to a height as low as 24 inches from floor, and a distance from the body up to 32 inches away at a height of 30 inches from the floor, up to 2 times per day.
- Horizontally transfer spool cap onto and off the spool core a distance of 4 inches utilizing upper body forces only at a height of 23 inches from the floor, requiring a force up to 70 lbs., up to 2 times per day.
- Grasp or squeeze excavator ratchet tie down handles requiring forces up to 55 lbs. up to 5 times per minute during spurt activity, at a height as low as 2 inches from the floor and a distance of up to 16 inches away from the body.
- Ascend and descend a trench with a depth as low as 28 inches beneath grade up to 4 times per hour and ascend and descend 2 consecutive trailer or mini sky track steps with initial step heights as high as 22 inches from the floor, up to 3 times per hour. (A single hand hold height is available above 45 inches).
- Access or works within spaces with specific entries (underneath the trailer tongue) with a height of 63 inches and a width of 19 inches, up to 4 times per hour during activity spurts.
- Works within spaces with specific entries (trenches) with a width as narrow as 12 inches up to 15 minutes continuously for up to 1 hour at each job site; and/or
- Access spaces with specific entries (the trailer bin to store tools and/or supplies) with a height of 18-26 inches from the floor and a depth of up to 15 inches, up to 6 times per hour during activity spurts.
- Ambulate a distance up to 150 feet of uneven ground up to 2 hours continuously for a total of up to 6 hours.
- Handling conduit fittings, climbing excavator steps, lifting/moving water cooler or the wire rack in team lifts.
- Requires assuming a static kneeling, squatting, or forward bent posture to work at a distance of 0 inches from the ground for up to 1 minute, to construct electrical line or open transformer lid locks, up to 6 times per hour.
- Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
