We are seeking a highly skilled Buyer to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring efficient sourcing, supplier management, and procurement processes to meet our organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, technical acumen, and a proven ability to drive cost savings while maintaining supplier quality and delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews requests for assigned materials, parts, and services, verifying specifications, sourcing components, and preparing and communicating RFQs (Request for Quote).
- Engages with approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information, analyzing bids to determine optimum value.
- Negotiates pricing, quality, delivery, and terms; selects suppliers; places purchase orders; and ensures compliance with corporate procedures and ethical standards.
- Monitors supplier performance, evaluates critical suppliers, and implements corrective actions to address any performance issues or delays in production or delivery.
- Facilitates supplier audits, site visits, and certification surveys in collaboration with technical or quality teams.
- Tracks and resolves purchase order discrepancies, invoicing errors, shipment quality issues, and delivery interruptions.
- Assists with supplier qualification and develops relationships to ensure alignment with company requirements and goals.
- Leads commercial pricing negotiations and contract supply discussions, including damage claims, rejections, returns, and engineering changes.
- Supports category managers in implementing sourcing strategies and identifying cost-saving opportunities to achieve yearly cost-reduction targets.
- Evaluates inventory supply, lead times, and reordering requirements while collaborating with operations, quality, and engineering teams to meet demand and technical specifications.
- Develops and tracks supplier KPIs, manages supplier databases, and recommends supplier additions or removals based on performance.
- Participates in budget reviews, assists with setting cost standards, and works with finance to align on objectives.
- Complies with company and HSE policies, escalating complex issues to the Procurement Leader when necessary.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- 5+ years of procurement experience (bachelor's degree required). In lieu of degree, 10 years of experience is necessary.
- APICS or CPM certification preferred (willingness to obtain required).
- LEAN/Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred (willingness to obtain required).
Experience:
- Experience in purchasing raw materials and machine parts preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and service environments.
- Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., JDE, MRP systems, EDI).
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong data analysis and technical documentation skills (e.g., reading machine drawings, material specifications).
- Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Strategic thinking with solid judgment and decision-making capabilities.
