About the Role:
We are looking for a Drilling Crew Chief to join our team and lead a drill rig crew. This is an opportunity for a self-starter with mechanical skills to operate geotechnical drilling rigs in the field as part of our growing Geotechnical Group.
In this role, you'll lead a crew in drilling geotechnical and environmental test borings using a variety of techniques, including mud rotary drilling, solid stem, hollow stem auger, and rock coring. You will drive, operate, and maintain the drill rig and related equipment, ensuring successful project execution while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Position Location:
This role is based in Burnsville, Minnesota, with most work performed in the surrounding areas. The position requires occasional travel to project sites including some out-of-state work, and while weekend work is rare, flexibility is important.

What You'll Do:
- Drilling Crew Chief: Oversee drilling operations, ensuring the team follows proper procedures for geotechnical and environmental test borings.
- Operate Drilling Equipment: Drive and operate drill rigs or semi-trucks to and from job sites. You'll be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all related equipment.
- Hands-On Drilling: Perform soil borings or rock cores using a variety of drilling methods in different soil and rock conditions, from 5 to 100+ feet deep.
- Safety Leadership: Ensure all team members adhere to National Drilling Association safety guidelines, fostering a culture of safety at all times.
- Site Preparation & Coordination: Collaborate with utility contractors to clear sites before drilling begins.
- Maintain Records & Compliance: Ensure all necessary documentation, including field logs and DOT-required paperwork, is completed accurately.

What You'll Bring:
- Experience: While prior experience operating drilling rigs is preferred, it is NOT required. We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical background and a desire to learn and lead.
- Licensing & Health Card: A Class A CDL and health card are required, or the ability to obtain them within six months of hire. A good driving record is essential.
- Safety-First Mindset: A commitment to safety, including adherence to National Drilling Association safety standards, is critical.
- Self-Starter Attitude: You must be able to operate independently, efficiently, and with minimal supervision.
- Mechanical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and resolve issues as they arise.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, as the job is physically demanding.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.
