Are you a dynamic and experienced natural gas trader with a passion for delivering results in the energy markets? The Energy Authority (TEA) is looking for a talented professional with expertise in the Northeast natural gas market, ideally with trading experience on Transco and Iroquois. Candidates with fuel oil management experience are highly desired, though not required.
What You'll Do:
- Member Resource Optimization/Market Knowledge:
- Coordinate with Members and Partners to manage natural gas requirements, ensuring purchases meet reliability needs while optimizing costs.
- Leverage market knowledge to identify and implement opportunistic methods such as meter bounces, arbitrage, swaps, and point selection to enhance reliability and profitability.
- Supervise gas scheduling to ensure timely and cost-efficient delivery.
- Maximize the value of unused transportation capacity by releasing excess capacity or bundling it with gas for delivered sales.
- Monitor pipeline imbalances, adjust purchases and sales as needed, and negotiate or supervise imbalance trades.
- Assist Members and Partners with developing and implementing natural gas purchasing strategies.
- Collaborate with Power Desks to enhance the value of generating assets.
- Align physical and financial strategies with the Financial and Risk Management Desks to hedge against market price fluctuations.
- Member, Employee, and Industry Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Members, fellow employees, producers, marketers, storage operators, and pipelines.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members on the Natural Gas Desk.
- Support Members and Partners in negotiations related to gas supply, storage, and transportation.
- Keep Members and Partners informed of market conditions and provide expert recommendations.
- Serve as a liaison between TEA, its Members and Partners, and external stakeholders such as producers, marketers, and pipelines.
- Margin Generation:
- Identify managed-risk opportunities to generate TEA-backed income.
- Maximize member-backed gains and ensure purchases and sales deliver value relative to market clearing prices.
- Deal Entry/Risk Control/Measurement:
- Record all transactions accurately in TEA's trade capture system and ensure timely and precise deal entries.
- Adhere to TEA's policies, procedures, and governmental regulations to eliminate risk and credit violations.
- Collaborate with mid- and back-office personnel to resolve trading disputes.
- Develop and implement methods to measure the profit and/or savings of transactions.
- 24-Hour Coverage/Travel:
- Be available for relocation during natural disasters or business continuity events, such as hurricanes.
- Travel overnight for industry functions, training seminars, and visits to Members and Partners.
- Provide independent evening and weekend coverage to ensure the reliable delivery of natural gas.
- Be prepared to work extended hours as needed.

What We're Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, finance, economics, or a related field from a four-year college or university is required. An MBA is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of industry experience, ideally in a trading environment. Familiarity with the Northeast natural gas market (including Transco and Iroquois) is essential. Experience with fuel oil management is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications such as Excel and Access is highly desired.
