Your role and responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the Field Application Engineer (FAE) for ABB's Electrification business in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region. In this role, you will provide technical support to consulting engineers, end users, EPCs, and design-build customers, ensuring that ABB products and solutions are recognized as preferred or acceptable manufacturers in project specifications. You will work closely with the local sales team and must be proficient in applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, and arc flash mitigation technologies across industries including healthcare, data centers, industrial, utilities, and commercial construction. The work model for the role is: hybrid (#Li-Hybrid) with limited overnight travel. You will be mainly accountable for: • Collaborating with consultant, end user, utility and EPC/DBC engineers to define electrical project needs, supply design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting & provide education on ABB solutions to gain acceptance of the same into project specifications. • Providing local technical support for a range of products and applications, including MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), paralleling switchgear (PSG), generator circuit breakers, and more. • Possessing a working knowledge of short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts and the ability to illustrate their benefit via tools such as SKM or Easy Power. • Reviewing and evaluating project specifications and end-user requirements to develop electrical solutions, including one-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, layout and equipment drawings, equipment specifications, and project budget pricing for low and medium voltage applications.

Qualifications for the role

  • B.S. degree in engineering; strong preference in electrical with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the electrical distribution industry.
  • Fluent in English; speaking and writing.
  • Previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards; ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL preferred.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
