Description
Under general supervision, assists in performing various maintenance, repair and replacement of HVAC systems in various County buildings and related structures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:
Associate's degree or certificate from a vocational school in HVAC course work;
AND one to three months related experience and/or training; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Texas Driver's License;
Texas State HVAC Refrigerant Certification;
EPA Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both in an office and outdoor work environment. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, and fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, moving mechanical parts and vibration, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and physical harm. May be required to climb ladders. May be required to work in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office setting, but may be very loud in outdoor situations. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

- Responds in a timely manner to work requests;
- Reviews and completes assigned work orders;
- Monitors and adjusts climates in building automated systems;
- Operates, repairs and maintains air conditioning and heating units, including commercial and residential chillers, within County buildings;
- Installs and repairs ice machines;
- Inspects electrical components to ensure efficient performance of refrigeration and heating systems; makes repairs as needed;
- Troubleshoots equipment;
- Performs routine maintenance duties such as replacing burned out light bulbs, delivery of office supplies and moving office furniture;
- Assists other maintenance staff as needed;
- During the first 72 hours following a disaster, remains ready and available for on-site response.
- Attends and participates in meetings and conferences as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of general maintenance and repair;
- HVAC systems, HVAC measuring and testing equipment;
- EPA laws, state laws and codes;
- Chillers and split systems;
- Safety rules and regulations;
- Department policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
Skill in:
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, external public agencies and organizations, vendors, suppliers and the general public. Using initiative, discretion and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules;
- Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions;
- Map reading;
- Performing mathematical calculations with skill and accuracy, including but not limited to measuring distances;
- Operating various hand and power tools, block pane, trenching machine, combination square, hammer, jack, hoe, shovel, router, chain saw, electric drills, sanders, joiner, planer, bits, miter saw, tape measure, coping saw, level, circular saw, pry bar, chisels, hand saw, hole saw, sheep's foot, saber saw brace, knife, ruler, etc.;
- Reading and understanding technical manuals;
- Providing effective customer service;
- Operating a personal computer and various software applications.
