BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Manager, Gas System Planning and Engineering at our Headquarters in Glen Allen, VA.
Responsibilities
- Manages facility planning team and models natural gas pipeline facilities.
- Provides system capacity information, system optimization, cost estimates, and innovative solutions for transportation services.
- Supervises planning, analysis, alternative assessment, design, reliability assessment, risk analysis, and accurate cost estimating of facilities to meet market expansion needs.
- Provides system outage analysis and hydraulic evaluation for pipeline operations.
- Evaluates marketing, engineering and field projects to determine effect on the pipeline during construction (i.e. outages) and after construction (in-service).
- Determines lowest impact outage plans.
- Assists Marketing and Engineering on project ideas, to help determine if the pipeline has the capacity to handle proposed new loads.
- Evaluates system constraints and provides throughput maximization to optimize the system's performance.
- Works extensively with Gas Control on outages, new construction, and facility enhancements, to ensure continuity of service.
- Provides guidance and instruction to facility planning and system optimization on normal operations on the pipeline.
- Train and manages staff.
- The work environment includes steady state and transient hydraulic modeling and numerical analysis.
- Supervises research to identify new and alternative technologies to promote a safe, reliable, and efficient pipeline operation.
- Has responsibility for development, maintenance, and enforcement of procedures and processes necessary to determine and post system capacity.
- Ensures procedures and processes are in compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission requirements, and has responsibility for accuracy and timing of support documents for filings.
- Works directly with customers to develop technical solutions to problems.
- Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.
- Provides technical input to assist in minimizing fuel, methane emissions, and operating costs of pipeline system.
- Supervises the development of standardized reports and reporting procedures.
- Performs activities necessary for effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection, development, salary administration, resource identification and procurement, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, and organization goals and objectives.
- Plans, organizes, integrates, measures, and reports the work performed within the department.
- Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience (typically ten years). Advanced degree preferred.
- Eight or more years of related experience, including three years of supervisory or management responsibilities.
- Strong background in compressor/pipeline operations, design, and maintenance. Understanding of financial applications related to facilities management and estimating.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Project management skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
