The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Power Plant Operator- In Charge position . This position is based out of Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution located in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Position Summary

This position operates the Centralized Power Plant as the only employee on shift, and is responsible for complete operation of a full range of equipment used in the generation of steam heat by high pressure gas fueled boilers. Functions independently during periods when the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds is not available and performs other maintenance duties as assigned. This position also acts as a lead worker/team leader of all power plant operators and is in charge of the maintenance and repair program of the power plant.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $29.28 per hour, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 03-16. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have training and or experience in the following:

• Maintaining and operating high pressure electrical, gas, and oil operated steam boilers and equipment.
• Performing supervisory or lead-worker related tasks (assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work, monitoring and training employees, etc.)
