Honeywell UOP is seeking a R&D Scientist II with expertise in Infrared (IR) and/or Raman spectroscopy, as well as exposure to complementary spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, UV-Vis, and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS). The selected candidate will join our Advanced Characterization Group within the Materials Characterization Department, a critical part of Honeywell UOP's Research & Development organization.
This role involves developing and applying advanced spectroscopic methods to analyze a wide range of materials, including heterogeneous catalysts, adsorbents, nanomaterials, and thin films. The scientist will play a key role in elucidating material structures, correlating spectroscopic data with material properties, and contributing to new product development, process optimization, and field service investigations.

The annual base salary range for this position is $89,000 - $110,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
The application period for the job is estimated to be 40 days from the job posting date; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct material characterization using IR, Raman, NMR, X-ray Absorption, and UV-Vis to analyze catalysts, adsorbents, and nanomaterials.
• Develop and apply in situ spectroscopy methods for probe adsorption, temperature variations, and gas-phase reactions.
• Interpret and correlate spectroscopic data to support R&D, New Product Development (NPD), Field Service Requests, and ISC activities.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot IR and Raman spectrometers to ensure optimal performance and data integrity.
• Optimize analytical methodologies and explore new spectroscopy technologies to enhance lab capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineers, chemists, and scientists to solve complex material characterization challenges.
• Prepare and present technical reports, research findings, and patents, ensuring compliance with R&D standards.
• Manage multiple projects, maintaining scientific rigor and process efficiency, while integrating advancements in spectroscopy.
YOU MUST HAVE:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
• 3+ years of hands-on-experience with IR and/or Raman spectroscopy
• 3+ years of experience maintaining equipment, interpreting spectroscopic data geared toward a specific study
WE VALUE:
• PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• In-depth theoretical and some operational knowledge of IR, Raman, and UV-Vis methods
• Experience with in situ related studies (probe adsorption studies, variable temperature, variable gas environments) using IR
• Experience dealing with heterogenous catalysts, adsorbents, and nanomaterials
• A strong background in chemistry/chemical sciences
• Experience analyzing a wide variety of materials (thin films, nanomaterials, non-crystalline solids, catalysts, etc.)
• Ability to design long- and short-term targeted experiments to resolve complex characterization problems
• A highly organized individual able to balance and prioritize a versatile workload
• Strong demonstration of teamwork abilities able to accept directives and contribute
• Excellent communication skills to understand and document project requirements and to effectively convey analysis results to others
• Ideal candidates is high-energy, creative, and a self-starter, who demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a lab-based team environment
