Your role and responsibilities

In this newly created role, you will have the opportunity to spearhead the delivery of early Studies, across all our target market segments. You will be building a newly formed team of experts, building on a firm foundation of existing studies in delivery, leveraging ABB's huge capacity and expertise in electrical, automation, telecommunications and digital solutions. You will work in the intersection between engineering & project execution, solutions & tech development, business development and sales, everyday exposed to the challenges and opportunities the energy industry is faced with, and with the means to do your part in solving them. The work model for the role is: hybrid from our St Neots location #LI-hybrid This role is contributing to the Energy Industries business in the UK and will be mainly accountable for: • Contributing to identifying and defining technical challenges and opportunities for our customers, and scoping feasibility, concept and design studies to address these. • Undertaking studies and consulting assignments designing forward-looking solutions, guiding customer projects from feasibility phase through to FEED and final investment decisions. • Advising on systems and technologies, and the associated technical sales strategy, that are crucial for the energy transition, such as hydrogen production, offshore wind, and renewable integration, both externally and across the ABB organization. • Advising on systems and technologies, and associated technical sales strategy, related to our existing markets, where future upgrade programmes are required. • Supporting ABB front end sales and marketing teams in customer and project sales pursuits. • Leading and knowledge sharing within the team, providing support and direction for junior team members • Building the environment for effective and efficient Study Delivery, through development of processes and procedures for delivery management • Managing resourcing of Studies, both from within the team and interfacing to our wider Operations and Technical Advisory capability • Liaising with PAEN Norway Studies Delivery Team • Providing technical oversight over our full portfolio of Studies • Working closely with Studies Sales, to pursue opportunities • Working closely with our Capture Team Leads, to bridge the gap and own the technical strategy between Study delivery and Project pursuit • Leading recruitment efforts to grow the capacity and skillsets of the team

Qualifications for the role

• Experience in project engineering and design developments from all phases of large projects, with a particular passion for the feasibility, concept development and select phases.
• Technical insight in electrical, controls, chemical, and/or systems engineering disciplines.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude. You are excelling when you get to attack new challenges, exploring solutions and solving the task with ingenuity.
• Domain expertise in renewable energy systems, such as offshore wind, hydrogen or carbon capture is an advantage for this position.
• Systems thinking mindset, and preferably experience in applying systems engineering methodology
• Proven track record in leading technical teams and ability to collaborate across domains (multidisciplinary). Typically gained in a role as engineering manager or lead engineer.
• Excellent communication skills to convey results in a simple and understandable way both orally and in writing
• Keen interest and understanding of the energy market changes due to the energy transition and new technologies.
• Commercial awareness with experience in performing techno economical evaluations
