ROLE OF THE JOB

If you are dedicated to achieving best practice and value for money in relation to all aspects of energy, water, and carbon reduction/management, then we want to hear from you.

The council's utilities and energy management incorporates over £22m spending on electricity, gas, and water. The successful applicant will report to the Energy Contracts Manager within the Corporate Commissioning and Procurement department and work with multiple stakeholders including members, schools, business units, senior management, central government agencies etc.

The role will require reviewing key processes and seeking ways to improve the process as well as making checks more robust within the service. It is critical that the candidate can work with both external suppliers and internal customers supporting relationships to ensure information flow, responding to a wide variety of requests and questions.

The role will be responsible for careful validation and approval of utility invoices for payment, ensuring accuracy of meter reading data is reflected within the billing and validate the costs of the utilities against the contracts negotiated by procurement.

You will be to manage utilities suspense accounts, shared utility meters within public buildings, resolve complex billing enquiries and act as point of complaints escalation.

Successful applicants will be proactive, have outstanding customer relationship skills and enjoy being challenged by new areas and activities; demonstrating a high level of attention to detail, they will also possess excellent communication and team working skills and have an ability to disseminate information clearly and concisely to a range of stakeholders.

This role is offered on a fixed term contract until 26th October 2026, with a starting salary of £30,559 (band 6) rising incrementally on an annual basis.

Based in County Hall, Morpeth, the Council supports flexible working.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
  • Degree level or equivalent standard of general education or experience
  • Awareness of the Energy markets, renewable and energy reducing technology and understand how they can impact the Council.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the relationship between costs, quality, customer care and performance.
  • Excellent ICT systems skills with ability to design and operate programmes to achieve work objectives.
