Description

Who we are

Marvel Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in Munich, is a technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean, and reliable power generation. With the aim of solving one of the biggest problems of humanity, we are developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
  • Contributing towards the transition to a world with clean and abundant energy

The impact you will make

Our mission is to unlock the potential of fusion power generation: abundant, clean, economic and safe energy. On the critical path is the demonstration of the key features of Marvel Fusion's unique fusion approach leveraging ultra-high intensity, short-pulse lasers and nanostructured targets. In recent years, the Experimental Physics Group at Marvel Fusion has implemented a new research laboratory at a world-class, ultra-high-intensity, short-pulse laser facility in the Greater Munich area. Moreover, we're partnering with domestic and international laser facilities and institutes, including the world's most powerful laser facility ELI-NP in Măgurele (RO) and a revolutionary high-power laser facility in Colorado (US), to advance our novel approach to fusion.

Together, these facilities are providing an excellent research platform to conduct groundbreaking laser-fusion research. As an Experimental Scientist Nuclear Physics/High Energy Density Physics you will become part of our team of seasoned scientists and will be responsible for planning and executing pioneering experimental campaigns in laser-driven fusion, including development of novel diagnostic instruments with high fidelity, always keeping our goal in mind: to make fusion energy happen.

Your responsibilities
  • You will plan, develop and execute key experimental campaigns in the field of nuclear fusion driven by ultra-short, high intensity laser pulses interacting with advanced targets at facilities worldwide, which will include:
  • Formulate experimental goals, define project planning and lead the design of components of the experimental set-up.
  • Design, calibrate, and field nuclear diagnostics for ultrashort laser-plasma interaction and nuclear fusion processes based on neutrons, photons and charged particles.
  • Operate particle tracking and nuclear reaction codes to aid in experiment design and data analysis.
  • Data analysis and data reduction, and their comparison to numerical simulation results.
  • You drive innovation towards data-driven, high-rep-rate analysis utilizing latest detector technologies and AI-driven approaches.
  • You are part of a team and work collaboratively with scientists and engineers in a highly dynamic working environment.
  • You write (scientific) reports and present findings to management and key stakeholders.
  • You are a key element in defining and pursuing the forefront scientific mission of the company, following a strict code of ethics, and always protecting confidential information.

Activities will initially be performed in the Greater Munich (DE) area, with occasional travel to research facilities worldwide.

What you bring
  • Completed a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field
  • Proven hands-on experience in conducting experimental studies in nuclear physics or high energy density physics is required, preferably in laser-driven experiments
  • Detailed knowledge of operating and adapting Monte Carlo particle tracking codes (e.g., GEANT4, MCNP, FLUKA, etc.)
  • A basic knowledge of nuclear reaction codes (in plasma and cold matter simulation environment) would be advantageous
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Willingness to reside in the greater Munich area

What sets you apart
  • Expertise in neutron detection and gamma spectroscopy in the context of fusion experiments
  • A basic knowledge of nuclear reaction codes in plasma and cold matter simulation environment
  • You are recognized as a resource or high impact contributor as evidenced by conference presentations or publications in refereed journals
  • Willingness to travel multiple times per year to research facilities in Europe and the U.S.
  • You love digging into and solving complex problems that require attention to detail and are a critical thinker

What we offer
  • An opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of our planet by making clean, safe and abundant energy possible
  • Flexible working, location- and hours-wise
  • A human-centred company culture with super nice and supportive colleagues
  • A great sense of community through team events and fun in and outside the office
  • A modern office with a lot of collaborative space close to Theresienwiese in Munich
  • Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
