Power TakeOff is a software and implementation company driven by making an environmental impact by helping business customers reduce their energy consumption. Since its founding in 2007, Power TakeOff's products and services have centered around the use of interval electric data to help the business market better understand and reduce their usage and to use software and analytics as tools to cost-effectively deliver services at utility-scale. While our end-user participants are businesses, much of our work is generated from utility-scale contracts with over 20 utilities across North America.

Position Summary

The Manager, Strategic Energy Management will oversee the implementation of Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) programs at Power TakeOff. This role is responsible for leading the Strategic Energy Management team and ensuring successful program execution. The position emphasizes leadership in energy efficiency program delivery, customer engagement, and team enablement to expand SEM programs into new markets. The Manager, Strategic Energy Management reports to Power TakeOff's Director of Portfolio Management.

Goals and Success Criteria

Program Design & Implementation - Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) (70%)
Goal: Lead the execution of Power TakeOff's vSEM program meeting or exceeding program goals by applying expertise in energy management, behavioral change strategies, and operational efficiency to maximize customer savings and engagement.
Success Criteria: Success is achieved when vSEM energy savings goals are met, participant engagement is high, and customers and clients are highly satisfied.

Management of Strategic Energy Management Staff (30%)
Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a high-performing Strategic Energy Management team, fostering a positive team environment that meets program goals and high customer service standards.
Success Criteria: The team is well-supported, with high morale and retention and demonstrates professional growth and operational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

vSEM Program Execution:

  • Lead customer meetings and workshops to implement vSEM program, providing expert guidance on behavioral and operational energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Customer Outreach Specialists to optimize recruitment of vSEM participants
  • Collaborate with Technical Team to align engineering support for vSEM program meetings and projects

Continuous Improvement:

  • Refine vSEM program processes aligning with SEM best practices and Power TakeOff's energy efficiency offerings.
  • Collecting and improve reporting metrics and evaluation frameworks that align with industry standards for SEM programs.

Resource & Best Practices Development:

  • Create and maintain program resources that support successful customer engagements and program delivery.
  • Develop standardized materials and training guides to ensure consistent execution of vSEM strategies across multiple utility programs.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Measurement & Verification, Value Creation, Portfolio Management and Program Delivery teams to streamline processes and share key insights.
  • Support general enablement efforts by aligning technical resources with best practices and enhancing team-wide service quality.

Key Skills

  • Strategic Energy Management Expertise: Extensive experience in working on Strategic Energy Management programs in the commercial and/or institutional sector.
  • Customer Engagement & Program Delivery: Strong ability to engage with commercial customers, guiding them through SEM practices and behavioral change initiatives.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Proven experience leading cross-functional teams, mentoring staff, and driving program success.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use energy data analytics to inform program development and optimize engagement strategies.
  • Innovation & Adaptability: Proactive in identifying opportunities for program improvement and adjusting strategies for optimal outcomes.

The following professional designations are considered desirable:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP)
  • LEED Certification
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation

Location & Travel

Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. Many employees are based near Denver, CO, and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these hubs is preferred but not required. Relocation assistance will not be provided. This position is eligible for employment in either the United States or Canada.

Travel is not expected for this position. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any requested work travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary for employees residing in the U.S. is between $90,000 and $110,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
