What role you will play in our team

The role of an Electrical Maintenance Technician at the Strathcona Refinery is to provide the functional, day-to-day maintenance support and surveillance of unit electrical equipment. The Electrical Maintenance Technician must master an effective working knowledge of safe work practices (both general operating unit safe work practices as well as electrical specific safe work practices). Their work may (or may not) be further specialized into sub-categories of low voltage, high voltage, power distribution, etc. Specialized electrical training is generally required to be a safe and effective Electrical Maintenance Technician. Strict adherance to Electrical Safety Best Practices is expected at all times to mitigate the potential risks from working on live voltage, arc flash, and other hazards associated with electrical equipment.

Imperial's Strathcona refinery is located at 101 Baseline Road in Edmonton Alberta. The shift schedule is Monday to Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm with recognized holidays and Earned Days Off.

What you will do

  • Develop thorough working knowledge of primary unit electrical equipment, power distribution schemes, protective relays, VFD, UPS, and EHT systems etc.
  • Obtain certifications as may be required to support specific equipment, or OEM warranty provisions, etc.
  • Develop thorough working knowledge of and demonstrate strict adherance to electrical safety work practices.
  • Comply with operating unit safe work standards (Lock-Out / Tag-Out), Management of Change, Procedure compliance, etc.
  • Conduct assigned surveillance / maintenance responsibilities adhering to PM and general equipment strategy requirements.
  • Developing and/or executing maintenance plans to isolate equipment for maintenance or return to serviceMonitor equipment, look for unusual conditions or measurements, support optimization and trouble-shooting activities.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrical ticket with Red Seal certification
  • Proficiency with SAP considered to be an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite considered to be an asset
  • Valid class 5 drivers license

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Works well in a team
  • Effective communication skills / ability to interface with personnel across all levels of the organization
  • Effective computer and data analysis skills
