The hiring range for this position is $38.85 - $48.56/hourly

OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Water Utility Supervisors are key to maintaining a high quality water system. This position will primarily supervise Leak Detection staff and Corrosion Control staff and both are imperative to the operation of Aurora Water's Transmission and Distribution water lines.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Water Utility Supervisors are key to maintaining a high quality water system. This position will primarily supervise Leak Detection staff and Corrosion Control staff and both are imperative to the operation of Aurora Water's Transmission and Distribution water lines.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, assigns, monitors, and reviews work activities and work crews
- Coordinates daily work activities.
- Assist in review and implementation of cathodic protection system designs, assessments, and reports.
- Makes recommendations for future water line replacement projects.
- Resolves problems and conflicts that arising during the course of work.
- Prepares reports and investigates accidents.
- Maintains records and makes recommendations concerning materials, manpower and equipment
- Troubleshooting and identifying water system concerns
- Maintains, trains personnel and enforces safety regulations and procedures
- Coordinates preventative maintenance programs
- Responds to citizen concerns
- Supervises assigned employees
- Provides, prepares and maintains maintenance records and reports on work activities and equipment
- Monitors and coordinates work with internal and external customers
- Makes recommendation regarding hiring, training, evaluating and discipline of assigned employees
- Responds to water, wastewater, stormwater emergencies
- Performs snow removal activities
- Performs stand-by duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Five years progressively responsible experience in installation, construction, maintenance & repair activities associated with water, wastewater, or stormwater infrastructure. Plus 1 year of supervisory or leadwork experience
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of hazards, practices, procedures, equipment and tool operation, systems and processes common to water operations and common safety practices and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of blueprints, grade and elevation surveying
- Thorough knowledge of the City of Aurora
- Technical knowledge of the water utility systems, detecting water leaks and Corrosion Control.
- Knowledge of excavation and trenching, traffic control and confined space entry
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and supervisory skills
- Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and equipment operation
- Skilled in training and monitoring of assigned personnel
- Skilled to recognize hazards, find resolution, specifications and attention to detail
Abilities:
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Ability to understand complex instructions, specifications and situations relative to job assignments
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management and citizens
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Colorado Water Distribution 3 and Wastewater Collection 1, OR Colorado Wastewater Collection 3 and Water Distribution 1 or ability to obtain within department specified time.
- Basic Corrosion Course and Corrosion Foundations certificate or ability to obtain within department specified time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- Light physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds
- Some lifting and carrying; walking, standing, climbing, bending, crouching and stooping to perform inspections
- Speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens
- Vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents
- Foot/eye coordination for operation of motor vehicle for travel to remote sites
- Hearing for instruction, troubleshooting and warning signals
Work Environment:
- Works both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, with some exposure to noise, dust, odors and fumes
- Occasional work in vehicle traffic
Equipment Used:
- Uses computer and electronic devices for email and data input
- Operates a motor vehicle
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
