Job Summary

The Driller - Core Sampling position works with the Senior Vice President to investigate and develop potential quarry locations by drilling for core samples to be used in geological investigations. The Drill Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a track mounted drill and preparing areas for shots. In this position, the Driller will perform maintenance on drill, lay out and drill shot patterns along with assist in loading and stemming of blast patterns. While working as a team, a preferred applicant will also perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as well as participate in safety inspections and the plant safety program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates track type drill, Operating the drilling rig for auger, rock core drilling and sampling
  • Prioritizes SAFETY, then QUALITY, followed by PRODUCTION
  • Completes day to day activities of drill operations including daily/monthly machine inspections, greasing, drill logs, and replacing bits as needed
  • Will take an active role in the plant safety initiatives
  • Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times
  • Performs maintenance on drill
  • Assists in loading and stemming of blast patterns
  • Participates in other tasks required by supervisor
  • Ability to manage several projects at once

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be competent in all aspects of drilling
  • Effective coordination and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to be a team player in mining environment
  • Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in hydraulic and electrical systems is a plus

Job Requirements and Education

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Drives or hauls drill rig to and from the project sites, Class A license is required or must be able to obtain such license within one month of employment
  • Complies with company vehicle driving rules and regulations
  • Reliable transportation
  • Obeys and follows applicable traffic laws
  • Follows all safety rules, housekeeping mandates, and reports hazards and incidents
  • Reports defects, accidents, and violations
  • Follows all verbal and written directions
  • Willingness and demonstrative ability to take direction from senior and executive management
  • Participates in required meetings
  • Is a productive team member that supports the team by going where needed, assisting where needed, and maintains good working relationships (coworkers, management, administration, and customers)
  • Ability to handle stress over long periods of time
  • Complete and pass pre-employment testing, including a drug screen and physical
  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • Must be safety conscious, dependable, motivated and possess a positive attitude in working with others as a team
  • ATF Clearance a plus
  • Extended hours may be required
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs.
  • Climb ladder to 8 to 10 feet to access equipment
  • Remove excess build up materials at the end of the workday using a scrapper or shovel
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather
