POSITION CONCEPT

The Supervisor Generation is responsible for the solar site maintenance and repair, contractor oversight, report generation, performance analysis, inventory management and spares procurement. The position is responsible for the supervision, coaching, and counseling of assigned company personnel. The Supervisor Generation is responsible for evaluating work according to priority, availability, and risk, along with identifying and assigning necessary resources to maximize productivity, quality, and safety. The person also will be involved with the development and tracking of effective inspection, monitoring, environmental compliance and preventative maintenance programs for Tampa Electric solar facilities and collector stations. Working with the rest of the Solar Energy Operations team, this employee will help develop and maintain standard work processes and protocols that provide value to the customer and ensure maximum reliability of the solar assets in the Generation Fleet of Tampa Electric.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise, direct, and coach assigned personnel. Manage goal setting and performance review process for direct reports to maximize productivity, workmanship, safety, and personal development. Maintain a working knowledge of the current collective bargaining agreement. Manage personnel performance issues to include administration of the Positive Discipline program.
  • Support Solar Operations in managing contractors Safety Performance using the TEC Contractor Safety Management Program. Coordinate multiple contractors, projects, and maintenance activities using industry best practices to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure all safe work practices and safety programs are utilized and strictly adhered to. Investigate and take appropriate action on contractor and personal injuries, near misses, and safety suggestions.
  • Assist in the facilitation of system root cause analysis for solar facilities and collector stations. Assist in facilitation and tracking of resulting action plans to maintain appropriate system performance.
  • Develop and actively manage the Preventative Maintenance (PM) workload and associated aging report. Develop hurricane preparation or extreme weather PMs.
  • Coordinate with Training Dept. to ensure assigned personnel receive necessary skills training including training required for classification step progression.
  • Participate in the development of solar facility and collector station O&M, capital and other budgets and manage expenditures accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies for area of responsibility.
  • All other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS

Key Internal:

Frequent contact with plant personnel: Managers, Supervisors, Technicians, Engineers and Operating personnel. Exchange of information involving maintenance schedules, research of technical data, tagging procedures, etc. Frequent contact with Portfolio Optimization and Energy Control.

Key External:

Bargaining Unit representatives, consultants (Attorneys, etc.), contractors, government and/or regulatory agencies, industry associations, vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Required: A High School Diploma is required with further education/training in technologies focused on electric power, electronics, mechanics, instrumentation, or hydraulics.

Preferred: Other Technical or Engineering accreditations in the electrical field.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Valid State of Florida Driver's License

Preferred: Recognized Solar Certifications

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Minimum of 5 years of work experience related to most of the Duties & Responsibilities of this position. Related experience consists of: Utility generation experience in the areas of electrical maintenance or instrumentation and controls.

Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of direct work experience with commercial photovoltaic installations.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:
Required: N/A
Preferred: 2 years of direct supervisory experience in covered environment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: A sound understanding of power generation, power delivery transmission, distribution or substation engineering principals, materials and their applications. Working knowledge of reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices and power delivery systems used in electric utilities. Working knowledge of work management systems in power generation and delivery. Must have strong interpersonal, communication, good project management, time management and verbal/written communication skills. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in real time, and the ability to take detailed documentation and assessment of any/all task at hand. Ability to work well with subcontracted personnel in resolution of issues identified in the maintenance and operation of the solar facilities. Electrical trouble shooting skills and Computer skills are essential. Performance management skills. Experience supervising teams of craft employees that work under a collective bargaining agreement.

Preferred: Experience working in utility scale solar photovoltaic systems with central station inverters and photovoltaic tracking systems. Experience working with scheduling software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project and an understanding of scheduling concepts and theory. Sound understanding of power generation, power delivery transmission, distribution or substation software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project and an understanding of scheduling concepts and theory.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Job hours consist of primarily dayshift Monday thru Friday with some extended working hours. Must be able to work irregular and extended hours at times, and possible holidays. Working conditions consist of going to the solar facilities area to perform various duties, travel in a vehicle to various locations through the TEC service areas will be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work in dusty and hot environments. Must be able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs. Walking (sometimes on uneven surfaces), bending and driving as needed.
