The Quality Assurance Laboratory Tester, Wood River Refinery performs processed and finished product testing using approved methods. The Laboratory Tester is also part of the Emergency Response Team.

This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Responsibilities May Include:
  • Working in a Laboratory setting safely by following all Lab Procedures and Safety Protocols.
  • Analyzing Laboratory Standards and Monitors in-line process grab samples, finished product samples, and outfall water samples.
  • Analyzing documentation of regulatory data from the analysis.
  • Generating data analysis reports.
  • Following policies, procedures and methods to test according to ASTM standards.
  • Completing maintenance and housekeeping responsibilities such as disposing/cleaning remaining sample bottles, restocking supplies to include solvents, gloves, sample bottles, and filters.
  • Maintaining lab equipment.
  • Maintaining a clean and contaminant-free work area.
  • Accurately completing sample testing in a timely fashion.
  • Reviewing and entering data into the database so the units can adjust accordingly.
  • Assisting the Chemist with preventative maintenance on Instrumentation.
  • Assisting with the development of new testing procedures and methods.
  • Effectively collaborating with team members inside and outside of the department and providing exceptional customer service.

Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to obtain (if selected) a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
    • Maintain face daily (clean shaven) so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly
    • Lift up to 50 lbs
    • Work 12 hour rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
    • Work near large, hot, hot-speed machines
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
    • Serve on Emergency Response Team

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or higher in science
  • 3 years or more of lab experience
  • 2 years of experience in a related industry
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, computer skills and Chemistry
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • High safety and environmental awareness
  • Ability to work in team-based environments

The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.

The base pay range for this position is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The starting rate is $42.55 per hour with increases each year until reaching the 3 year fully qualified rate of $51.57 per hour. This position has a 7.5% Variable Cash Incentive Program target, 8% 401k match, and Cash Balance Account pension.
