This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

The Avionics Advanced Technology Organization (ATO) is responsible for the development and maturation of technology tied to long term growth opportunities, enabling the Avionics business to have the right technology ready for integration in New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.

The ATO will also execute advanced NPI programs focused on developing new capabilities outside of traditional Avionics products in support of key missions.

The ATO Advanced Programs Execution Leader (APEL) will be responsible for overseeing program execution, enabling operational rigor, and aligning to Flight Deck best practices within the ATO. In addition, this role will be responsible for meeting programmatic, functional, business, and broad company objectives using lean principles.

Essential Responsibilities:

More specifically, the individual will:
  • Hold responsibility for execution of ATO engineering projects and programs by meeting customer milestone deliveries to agreed cost, schedule, and development commitments.
  • Strategic workforce planning for ATO programs including NPI, new technology introduction (NTI), and IR&D projects.
  • Manage multiple broad-scope programs and complex resourcing strategies across a matrixed organization.
  • Establish operational rigor within the ATO, with heavy focus on implementing FLIGHT DECK principles that consists of GE .Aerospace's systematic lean approach to drive operational excellence and exceptional leadership behaviors.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise while translating highly technical engineering concepts into workable solutions.
  • Foster and inspire a collaborative work style and display team-oriented behavior with a proactive example of communication internally and externally.
  • Establish robust relationships with customers, suppliers, key partners, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work across core Avionics functions including engineering, business, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, HR, legal, and compliance to ensure on-time deliveries and proactive problem solving.
  • Own team succession planning through strong performance management and talent development with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Deliver quantifiable results through leading, motivating, and inspiring others.
  • Maintain high visibility as a key Engineering Leader in the Avionics community while being respected for maturity, professionalism, expertise, sound judgment, passion for excellence, long-term commitment and uncompromising integrity.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, or relevant area from an accredited university or college or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience in a highly technical engineering field, preferably in avionics systems integration, hardware, and/or software development.
  • Leadership experience with projects and programs.
  • Financial knowledge.
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.


Desired Characteristics:
  • Master's degree in engineering or business administration from an accredited university or college.
  • Prior experience in people leadership, both direct and indirect/matrix.
  • Demonstrated capability to constructively partner and drive alignment across a matrixed organization.
  • Experience working with U.S. Government Sponsors.
  • Experience working with airworthiness authorities and regulators.
  • Demonstrated success in engineering and business program management.
  • Successfully demonstrate a high level of professionalism in demeanor and presentation to include excellence in questioning, listening, and influencing.
  • Knowledge of sensing and signal processing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, cybersecurity, and advanced HW technology spaces.
  • Experience maturing technology from concept to productization
  • Strong familiarity and experience with avionics and defense products.
  • Exceptional presentation skills and perceived as knowledgeable, consultative, and objective.
  • Persistence and ability to maintain an uncompromising balance with thoroughness and a quick-to-action style of execution & accountability.
  • Highly visible, hands-on approach while setting the example for high standards and accountability for the organization.
  • Inspirational communicator with the ability to engage and inspire one-on-one as well as in broad audiences.
